Hello guys,
I come here as a last resort after spending many hours trying to figure out the solution to my problem(s).
The story:
I purchased an HP M9000t desktop computer that came equipped with an Atheros (sp?) wireless G/N network card. My computer is currently ~30 feet away from the router with 1 wall (just regular drywall) sitting in the middle. It shows with my current setup that I'm connected at 300 mbps, but when transferring files, I only get ~500 KB/s! I played with the settings after looking on here about what settings to change to make sure they were set to give me maximum speed - no dice - still ~500 KB/s transfer speed. So I figure it's the wireless card, so I went out and picked up the DWA-552 desktop card. $80 bucks later I thought I'd be in heaven transferring files at ~150 mbps...Nope, still ~500 KB/s transfer speed. Again, I played with all the settings, still nothing. Took the card back, and now I'm back to square one. (I'd like to add in that the DWA-552 really screwed up my computer while it was installed - I've never seen so many blue screen of deaths!)
500 KB/s ain't gonna cut it! The file transfer I'm looking at now says it's going to take 1 1/2 days to complete!
If you guys have any suggestions, please give them to me. I'm about ready to throw in the towel.
To add, I've followed all the directions in the "how to get 300 MB/s" post and followed them precisely. I have it set to Wireless N only, TKIP/AES WPA 2 personal, 20/40 channel, etc.
I'm also having a problem with my connection dropping frequently. For instance, when using Bittorrent, the files will be downloading at 550 KB/s, then all of a sudden it will drop every second down to 0 KB/s, then all of a sudden it will go back up to 550 KB/s. During the slowdown, all web surfing will stop (connection dropped), until it syncs again. Definitely not a happy camper, and hopefully this can be fixed.
Thanks in advance,
Brian

While your numbers seem a little slow to even me, you are unlikely to ever see the numbers you really want with wireless. I suggest doing what I do when I need to transfer large files. I either run my temporary 100' CAT6 cable so I can transfer at wired speed, or use an external USB hard drive. I have a couple of 2.5" self-powered USB 2.0 drive enclosures with 40GB 7200RPM drives in them. They are fast and easy.

The site you are downloading from may not be able to send it to you at any faster rate. Have you tried other sites to check your speed?

I should have been more clear, I'm only speaking of slow transfer speeds on my local internet.
DSL modem -> DIR-655 -> 2 wired desktops, 1 wired gigabit NAS HD, 1 wireless N desktop.
The wireless desktop is having slow transfer speeds to the wired units on the network.

I was pretty dissapointed with the gigabit speeds on this router too. I could only get about 130 megabits max out of it. It could also be the dns-323, but for right now I don't have a lot of gigabit equipment to play with and now my router isn't even stable enough for me to use it so I don't know where the blame goes for poor gigabit performance.

Anyone know the solution to my problem? :-\

what are you using to determine the throughput, windows copy box?
is the performance the same if you use ethernet? what is it you are transfering?

Yes, I'm determining the speed via windows copy box. For a 700 megabyte video to transfer over wi-fi, it takes ~15 minutes to complete. The performance is better when using a wired connection. Transferring videos/pictures/music/backups.
For the heck of it, I installed the beta firmware in hopes it would solve my problem, but no dice, same situation.

63 views and nobody with any possible solutions?? :-\

I'm afraid that the solution I cited above is the only one that will work.

Hi bdyelton,
How fast are your Wired Computers? How fast is your DNS-323 connection to the Router?
What I did having a NetGear SC-101 Storage Central Unit hooked up, was to drop the transmission rate from Best(Automatic) to MCs 11 -52 (108) Mbit/s. I haven't had any problems with dropped packets.
Please note, if you do go out on the Web with your Browser, it does slow down the Background copying, because your Anti-Virus is also working in the background.
