Ok, I'm running a software firewall app (Comodo) that I have set to block any outgoing connections that I don't initially approve. When launching SharePoint I find that the program (SharePont) consistently (and *persistently*) tries to connect to IP 210.242.32.129. I emailed Tech Support and they don't seem to have a clue - I even sent them screenshots of the connection attempt - no response back from them since yesterday on that.
I'd sure like an explanation of this. If it's an auto-update routine, then it needs to be an EXPLICIT opt-in option.
Thank you.

I believe the firmware upgrade server wrpd.dlink.com.tw is at IP address 210.242.32.129. My guess is the router is automatically looking to see if there is a new firmware available. You can disable that in the router setup menu under tools > firmware.

Hmmm, yes, it is at that.
But thinking about it, it couldn't be the router because the router is outside my system's firewall, it has to be the software itself.
As I said, it wouldn't be a big deal IF this was an user-controlled option.

OK, yeah thats weird. I don't see any check for updates option in the Shareport GUI either?
-
No, that was the first thing I looked for.

I don't think mine is doing it. I'm only using windows XP's firewall and Shareport is added to the exceptions so I don't know that I can tell from there one way or the other. Looking at the Internet Sessions section of my routers status page though I don't see that IP address listed when I run Shareport. I'm not sure that is a good indicator either but I'm not sure where else to look. I don't think I'm going to lose any sleep over it, but if I was you it would likely bug me. :-\

In my version of Shareport there is an advanced setup if you right click the icon and you can turn off automatic update. Maybe that will turn it off.

Wand, thank you. My bad - i didn't think to right-click the systray icon - there is indeed an Advanced Options selection from the right-click there, and it *does* have the Auto-Update notification feature there.
Sorry, don't know why it never occurred to me to check the tray icon.
Oh, and BTW, if you have it set as an exclusion with WF, then it won't show the connection either.

What version of Shareport are you two running? I don't have that advanced options entry for my v1.1.0 R1. ???

v1.14

OK, at this point I'm going to assume that, since I don't have the check for updates option, that it isn't actually checking for updates. :)
