Title: Strange DIR655 behaviour
Post by: seanjones80 on November 23, 2009, 08:33:15 AM
I recently bought a DIR655 to replace a linksys router after upgrading my net speed to 50mb, everything ran great until two nights later when suddenly it dropped all wireless and wired connections.
on visual inspection all the routers lights had gone off except the power light which was blinking rapidly. after 5minutes it seemed to reset (power light became constant) but the router was unresponsive until l I power cycled it.

it then ran fine for another 10-15minutes then it did the same thing (unresponsive with blinking power light)
and again after 5-10mins it seemed to reset.
after some research on the net I set the wireless down to 20mhz and deactivated the auto check for Firmware updates (just in case it was some sort of update check)

The problem seemed to be fixed and everything was great for a week, then suddenly it did it again (blinking power light) but this time the router didn't recover, nor did a power cycle fix the problem.
so it sat there for an hour with its power light blinking away while being completely unresponsive.

after looking on-line and in the Manuel as to what a blinking power light means for the dir655 and finding nothing I turned it off for the night, only to turn it on this morning 6-8hours later to get a clean boot.

Since then i've flashed it with the 1.21EU FW and reset to factory defaults.

Does anyone have an idea of what could have caused or is going to cause this issue?

Before and after firmware was 1.21EU

What was the firmware prior to the flash to 1.21?

The firmware before the flash was 1.21eu aswell, just reflashed it after it finnally came back on in the morning so that I knew I had a clean flash, then I reset it to factory defaults just to be sure. Its now setup again and just waiting to see if it happens again. Any ideas ? :3 because I'm stumped

I had this router for almost 2 years without having any major problems even though the last update screwed up my Access/Web Filter and cannot get it work.  So, I just gave upon that.

But, last night all of sudden my internet connection was just dragging and when I try to connect to the DIR-655 console it would not connect.  Since it was late in the night  I just went to sleep but when I reset it this morning it would not come on at all and it behaves just like seanjones80 describes.  Not sure what happened and what is going on .

More wired to this, when I try to go to DLink.com connecting directly to my DSL Modem I was getting 503 error.  Wow!  what is going on DLink?

Please post, if anyone had the same situation and find out what went wrong.  Greatly appreciate it.
