Title: DNS-343 FW1.03 with a PS3 FW3.10 won't play MP4
Post by: Smyle1 on November 23, 2009, 11:31:18 AM
All,

I have the following setup:

Dlink DNS-343 FW 1.03
Dlink DIR-655 FW 1.32NA
Sony PS3 60GB FW 3.10

As you can see, to date I have the latest firmare for all devices. However, my PS3 will not see .MP4. I know MP4 will play on the PS3 as I have connected an IPOD to the PS3 and verified.

So we are clear,
-UPnP is enabled
-No restrictive permissions have been set
-I have a RAID 1 set up with (2) 2TB Seagate Hard drives
-I can play MP3,Mpeg, (not .mov) on the PS3 from the DNS-343
-I have factory reset the box twice.

Also, I have copied one of the MP4 files directly to the PS3 and can play it with no problem. Further, I have connected an Ipod to the PS3 and can play all the MP4 movies flawlessly.

I did see on a previous post that someone had the same issue when they went to 1.03 on the DNS-343 ( they stated it worked fine in 1.02)

Would someone please shed some light as to how to get .MP4 to play on the PS3 using the DNS-343 as the media server?

Help with this issue is greatly appreciated.

You have pretty much the same set up as me, and are having the exact same problem. And yes MP4s used to show up in firmware 1.02. I mentioned in an earlier post that I can see and get .avi divx and .avi xvids to play and that's pretty much it.

I guess its just one of those things that got removed by accident. They did say they were looking into it and hopefully it can be restored via the next firmware. Just a little annoying as this was the reason I bought the thing.

I may just downgrade to 1.02 but worry it will be painful and will miss all the good 1.03 brought.

Sadly, I too bought this for streaming. No one else has mentioned this issue which begs the questions "What are others using to stream from external hard drive to xbox/PS3"?

I am no longer streaming from it.  I either connect a USB drive to the PS3 or use media PC (which put together because couldn`t use PS3 as originally intended).  The media PC reads the DNS343 as a mapped drive only.

Disappointed overall.

This was mentioned in another forum and will be fixed in the next firmware.

ECF,

Thank you for your response. That is great news and I am sure many will be looking forward to it.

Do you know approximately when the next firmware release will be? I believe there was a 6 months time difference between 1.02 and 1.03...

ECF

Since the whole reason for me to buy the DNS-343 was to use as a media library and not withstanding other user's issue with the box, is there an update to the next release? Even a beta?

Funplugging is nice, but not what was intended. I am sure DLINK would prefer users utilize the feature set provided ( since it costs the company money to develop such functionality) rather than go to a 3rd party solution.

I look forward to your response.

There i sno current Beta available nor an eta on an update. I can say that we are workig on overhauling the UPNP AV system but as stated, can not give an ETA.
