Hello, I am using my DNS-321 to feed music to my SONOS music system. The SONOS software has a limit (admittedly quite large) on how many songs it can index, but I have more songs than the limit in my collection. It also seems to only allow the full share to be specified as a music source when using a network drive. I.E. I can not tell it to look at just folder 'x' in the share. Is there any way to define multiple shares for one harddrive, instead of just the one 'volume_1' share?

Sure, just map to individual folders on the NAS. I have a number of shares defined on mine.

I guess the question is, can the SONOS map to \\NAS\Volume_1\Music1, and to \\NAS\Volume_1\Music2, etc... seperately?
If the SONOS picks up UPNP then you will only be able to publish one folder on your NAS. If it picks up SMB then you can publish several folders.

I'm running into a similar issue. SONOS can find a music library only in shares, not in folders under shares. That is, it will index all music files in all folders and subfolders in a share, but you can't point to a specific folder to be indexed, only to shares. Since the DNS-321 automatically has \\NAS\Volume_1 and \\NAS\Volume_2 as shares for the entire drive, I need to be able to define shares for specific folders on a volume (say, \\NAS\Volume_1\Music) since I can't point to a folder (say, My_iPod) on that drive as the music library source. The problem is that I can't seem to create shares for specific folders on the NAS drive in Windows XP Home. (I did the registry hack to see 'Shares and Security' in the context menu, so I can right-click and create a shares for a directory.) I can create shares for folders on all NTFS-formatted drives on my local computer, but not on the Ext2-formatted drive in the DNS-321.
How can I create shares on an Ext2-formatted drive in the DNS-321 in Windows XP? Or can I simply reformat the NAS drive to NTFS in Windows and create shares on that (or will that mess things up)?

You can't use anything but EXT2 (or for recent firmware EXT2/EXT3) Linux filesystems for the NAS.
I have shares for different users specified on mine.

But how do you specify shares for folders on the drive in Windows XP? I can't seem to do that.

I did and I can access the files just fine, but Sonos can only access shares (for example, \\NAS\Music), not assigned drive letters (e.g., N:\Music). The only available share now is \\NAS\Volume_1 for the entire drive, which means Sonos would index every single media file on the entire drive, which is not what I want. I want to use only media files in a particular folder (which needs to be shared to create a share in the form \\NAS\Volume_1\Music).

Open the configuration screen, go to Network Access, then select the Advanced button.
In the Network Access Settings, create a new share to the folder in question. It'll appear as a separate share in the SMB Access List.
This share will then be directly accessible.
I still don't understand why you can't simple point Sonos to \\NAS\Volume_1\Music if that's what you want.
