Is it safe to upgrade without backing up hard drives first. I don`t fill like backing up 1TB of files.
I know Dlink recommends backing it up first. I did it before and didn`t loose any files.

Well, if you only have one copy of the files, you should already have backup!
Remember: Data you don't have at least two copies of is data you don't care about.

In the words of Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry - so tell me punk, do ya feel lucky? Well - do ya?
Without a backup, your data is at risk, even if you're not doing a firmware upgrade and just using the NAS normally
Without a backup, your data is at even greater risk, whilst you're doing an upgrade - if you don't want to follow good advice, then don't ***** & gripe when disaster strikes.
It's your data - if you have no value for it, you figure we care?

Thank you for reminder. :-* I do have backups of every folder of my NAS, That is not what I was asking for.
I asked if anyone upgraded from 1.06 to 1.07 lost their data in process. Plain and simple.
I just don`t want to spend the rest of the week restoring my directories from backup, that`s all.

Plain & simple - that question never appears in your first post and even after re-reading it a few times, that is not what comes across.
For what it's worth - I've had my DNS-323 since fw 1.02 and have not lost data on any firmware update - the risk is not that high, but it is there - and yes, I have seen fw flashes fail, just not with my DNS-323.

Now that we know the question, the answer is no. ;D I upgraded 1.06 to 1.07 some time back, data didn't go anywhere.
