Title: DIR-655 / DNS-323 dropping wireless connection
Post by: Bond13579 on November 24, 2009, 03:05:17 PM
I'm having issues transferring files to/from my DNS-323 using a wireless connection on my laptop.  The transfer will start and under a minute all of a sudden everything hangs.  Then I get a notice saying I don't have a network connection anymore.  My wireless connection always gets dropped when doing this.  The only way I can transfer files to the DNS is to directly connect my laptop to the router...  it sucks!

I'll try tonight to see if the same happens when transferring files using a wireless connection to another computer on my network.  I thought for sure it was working before but now I'm second guessing myself.

Any suggestions?

All I can say is I have a DIR-655 A1/A2 V1.21 (because I never wanted to flash the firmware as too many people have problems) and I have a DNS-323 running 2 WDC 1TB in mirror raid.
I have never had any problem moving files from my laptop (WinXP SP3) wireless to my NAS drives.
I have one iMac (17") wireless to it also, can access NAS. Other pc(WinXP SP3) & iMac are wired and Macbook (wireless) all access NAS.
In the DIR-655, I set 192.168.0.32 to be reserved for NAS. In the NAS I put the ip address in as static, which 192.168.0.32 is the default. Just set it to NOT get an ip from DHCP.
All I can say is check the setting in the DIR-655 and then in the DNS-323.
This has worked for me.

I'm able to rule out the DNS-323.  I've tested just transferring files from my other computer on the network and it drops.  I attempt to copy some music and after about 3 songs the connection just drops.

I thought it was fixed when I was able to transfer many videos to the DNS.  However as soon as I went to transfer a file FROM the DNS, that's when the connection drops.

Do you have jumbo frames selected in the 323? That can kill it.  I have a 655 and 323 and rarely have problems with it (beyond the 1.32NA fiasco problems which we all know about). What chipset is the receiving wireless?

Hi Bond13579,

I have a mixed Network. I have a NetGear SC-101 Unit. I have a D-Link DNS-323 Unit. I have a matching Wireless Adapter for my Wireless Computer.

How fast is the connection between the Laptop and the D-Link Router? Is it G Speed? Is it n Speed? You need to go into the Wireless Section of the Router and limit the fastest speed of what the Router transmits at to the fastest speed of your slowest device on your Network.

If you transmit too fast, you will constantly lose the Wireless Connection, as you are now doing.

I do not think this is correct. The router works very well in mixed mode. I have a variety of N and G devices and they stream fine. It will not do anything bad to your wireless connection to mix them.

I am having a very similar problem. My wireless drops out constantly.  The D-link gadget stops showing speed status and instead says IP Config error.  I have enabled MAC filtering and assigned reserved IP's for all of the MAC registered devices.  When I start a download of any sort of even access websites like Amazon, the wireless drops.  This is driving me nuts and I am seriously regretting the purchase of this router.  I am by no means a networking wizard, but I never had any difficulties with my Netgear.
I have a desktop running Vista connected to the switch.  I have no problems with the connection there.  I also have an XP laptop, a Vista laptop, an Ubuntu netbook and a Playstation 3.  They all have the same problem.  Any ideas?
