Hello,
My setup is the following:
Actiontec router connected to Verizon FIOS. Dlink DIR-655 connected to actiontec as wireless AP. I am connecting a desktop directly into the actiontec and all other wireless devices connect thru the Dlink DIR-655. All computers are running on network 192.168.1.x I am using WEP security on the Dlink.
The actiontec and Dlink are located downstairs at one end of the house. I have a dead spot upstairs at the very other end of the house so I purchased a Dlink 7100AP to act as repeater.
I am completely confused (as this can also act as AP, bridge, client, repeater) how to configure the new device to extend my signal to the other end of the house. I have wireless devices on this end of the house and I'm hoping to boost the signal for their connection.
I think I've had the 7100AP successfully configured as a repeater but if I log into the DIR-655 I don't see the mac address of the repeater. I'm fairly certain that I really don't have this configured correctly because when I look at the wireless network connections from a laptop upstairs (the 7100AP and DIR-655 have the same SSID), the strength is fair - no boost!
This apparently is just over my head. I consider myself fairly network savy but can't find enough clues in the forums to get this going.
thanks, Katherine.
