Anyone have any idea on the status on the new firmware? D-Link took 1.8 down for security reasons and has yet to be added back. There was mention of the 1.9 beta floating around but nothing on when 1.8 will be solid and officially released again.

We currently do not have an ETA for new code for this router. Please monitor the support site for updates.

Was 1.8 in fact taken down for security reasons? I cant seem to find any mention of it on the support pages. I'm sure there are plenty of customers like myself using 1.8 and I'd be extremely concerned if there was a security flaw in this firmware to which we were not alerted. I'll gladly rollback to 1.7 or earlier if that is the case.
-
No, the 1.8 code was removed due to complaints of poor wireless performance for the DGL-4300. The decision to remove the code had nothing to do with security.
-
Well thats a relief. Thanks for the speedy reply Lycan. My wife uses the wireless link for her laptop and I use it for my PDA but we've never seen any major issues. I'll just leave it be for the time being then. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the reason behind its removal. The security concern for 1.8 is what I got off some forum that contacted D-Links support and it's what they said. Will 1.8 be re-released again anytime soon but with the performance issues fixed? Just wondering if thats all that was wrong with that firmware seeing as how its been removed for a while now when firmware is being released for the DGL-4500. I'm sure quite a few people are running firmware 1.8 and ain't aware of the performance issues it has or noticed to see 1.8 was removed. Wouldn't you have had a fix out there to correct the issue while other people are currently on 1.8 and may be experiencing these performance problems.

New code should be in the works. Everyone with the 1.8 should get a notifcation via the UI of the router informing them that there is a newer firmware once it is released.
-
If 1.8 is working for customers (with in their needs) they don't need to change it (up or down grade).
For most online gamers the Internet bandwidth is the slow part of their connection, not the wired or wireless portion of their LAN. The QOS in the gaming routers helps the gamer get his/her share of the internet pipe coming into the router when there are other users/services running.

Where can I get this 1.8 firmware for the DGL-4300 if you don't mind me asking? The reason I ask is cause I currently have a Dell Laptop with a Intel Wireless Card and DGL-4300 with the 1.7 firmware and it won't let me join and I read the release notes concerning 1.8 and it mentioned that this is fixed?
-
I will try to locate it for you and email it to you.

Any word on the update?
-
Yes, is there?
From what I've gathered:
1.7 ~ Wireless is good, but the stats show a lot of dropped information (Functionality improved)
1.6 ~ Wireless is good, stats are good too. (Has some issues with pc games. Serverlist in CoD4 )
1.8 ~ Wireless for my laptop was fine, but my xbox 360 had a very low rate and thus terrible experience. (Had the latest and best configuration and functionality though. Didn't have to restart for every setting which is lovely.)
I really do hope they make a new one soon.
I miss all the options and ease of use that 1.8 had. But I can't deal with my 360 being unplayable.
-
Hence the reason we yanked it. I'm still looking guys, I haven't forgotten.
-
I have the 1.8 Firmware if someone needs it.
Glad to hear it's not forgotten, at least new firmwares if that is what you were referring to. :)
-
While were on about the Firmware, can we get a feature that allows us to change the color of Router page instead of the Orange, it would be nice to be able to change that from its default.
-
Any news on the firmware for this router? Well we likely see Firmware 1.8 released again.

Yes, I too am desperately waiting for a new firmware update.
1.7 chuggs loading youtube videos.....but the wireless works well with my 360 but not my laptop (built in intel 3845bg chip or the one that doesnt seem to like the dgl-4300 certain firmwares)
Please let us know if there is at least some progress or a beta?

I had 1.8 installed on my router and experienced poor wireless performance on my Xbox 360 & laptop both wirelessly connected.
I downgraded to 1.7 and voila! Everything runs happily along. I took apart my Xbox 360 wireless adapter to confirm the 1 thing in common with these devices - they both used Broadcom chipsets.
-
Glad new FW will become available.
This is a good router.
Using it here with 3 computers 2 of them gaming.
it works better than the dir655 IMHO
-
I'm back to using 1.8....I was able to fix the wireless problem by turning Super G Mode to disabled. I have my network on G only and WPA only I put the channel at auto and rate at auto.
Since then, everything is working fine.
Try it out.
-
Again, it would be nice if D-Link can at least confirm whether or not a firmware version is being worked on for the DGL-4300?
I don't know why it's so taboo, even when you email support. Each firmware version seems to have its flaws, I still like 1.8 the best, but I would like to see some issues fixed with it.
That way I can know for sure whether to upgrade or not.

We are working on a 1.9, however this will be the last and final firmware.
I do not have an ETA for this code.

Thank you sir, that is all I wanted to know. I hope it is rock solid hehe :)
