Title: scan disk in 1.08 b8
Post by: mauzzz on December 09, 2009, 12:52:11 PM

Upgraded from 1.08 b5 to b8. Restored factory defaults. Scan disk still doesn't work. Scan Disk Result = FAILED.

Two WD5000AACS-00ZUB (500 Gb) in RAID1.

Hard drive info says:

Total Hard Drive Capacity:    -1 MB
Used Space:    0 KB
Unused Space:    0 MB

Those are weird figures for disks which are half full. Otherwise the NAS is working without problems.

I've been afraid to try the disk scan due to the previously reported errors on earlier versions of firmware.  I think my fears are still with me! :D

Does it work if you reboot the NAS?

Reboot doesn't change the scan disk behavior.

scandisk works for me. I only have one Seagate    ST31000528AS.

I too am having an immediate failure with SCAN DISK.  Even after a restart (it forces you to restart when it fails), it still fails.

I have two 1.5 Seagate (ST31500541AS) running RAID0 with 1.08 b8.  I have static IP, Jumbo Frames 6000, NTP set, FTP started, Bonjour Add-On running, iTunes server on and UPnP/AV running.

I guess I will try a factory restore and see what happens...

Just an update, same thing after factory restore and NO changes to any config items (not even the first time wizard)

More fun... I also saw what Mauzz reported.  On another DNS-323, but this one with two WD 750GB drives (WD7500AAKS-00RBA) in RAID 0, I successfully ran SCAN DISK with 1.08 b 8, only to reboot and have it report -1 MB available on the status screen.

To fix it, I tried the factory restore (after backing up the config).  This fixed it.  I then loaded the old config (the same one that I had just saved) and everything is ok.

So.... unless there is some really good reason to run scan disk on the 323, I would not recommend it in this current beta release.

It would be great if the 323 had similar disk diagnostics (SMART) as the 343...
