I've had many of the problems mentioned here in the forums but this was a new one for me.
DGL-4500 A1 1.21 Beta 3 - wired connection failed (No WAN, 4 LAN ports fail) but wireless continued to work.
I've been traveling for business so I've been rebooting the router periodically so that if I'm gone for a couple weeks, it won't lock up while I'm gone. Uptime before the failure was about 26 days.
I updated (over the wireless connection) to DGL4500A2_FW121NAB08Beta as rebooting the router did not seem to fix the problem. I was on the phone with my cable ISP and the tech reported he could see momentary data flow as the 4500 rebooted. So the WAN port came up at some point during the boot process but then failed?
The 4 LAN ports failed - it wasn't 4 ethernet cables failing simultaneously, there was no connection, no work, nada
After the update to the latest beta firmware, the router is back up and running... for now....
Please fix the issues with this router before it finds itself in a shallow grave in the desert!
PLEASE, DLINK, fix it!

"I updated (over the wireless connection) to DGL4500A2_FW121NAB08Beta"
Um I would reflash ur 4500 using a wired connection as dlink specifically states not to upgrade over wireless. Theoretically it could work however not being sure of the total process of the update and how it's implemented, having a stable wired connection is preferred for any update. I've seen specifics like this for other devices that have wi-fi. They always state to update over wired. I would connect one wired PC to the 4500, update the FW again, let the 4500 reset to default settings and then connect to your ISP service and check for internet access, with out tweeking anything. Unless your ISP has you setup for PPPoE for connections, your 4500 should be able to connect to the internet with out tweeking anything. Then check your LAN and wireless for connectivity. If good then, I would tweek the 4500 as you need. Save off ur configuration to file.
I'm on A1 HW and using B08 FW and all is working pretty good accept for some random wireless disconnects still being seeing.

He stated his all his LAN ports are failed, so no wired connection would be possible. I would wager electrical issue and would contact dlink for RMA.

I understand that but still could be that the FW was not seated properly. Also I would check a different wire and also check a different PC or NIC card in the PC. Dlilnk is going to want to ensure the FW was sent properly over wire if possible. Hard to believe that all the ports went bad at the same time though.

Like I said, it was not faulty cables or a faulty NIC on the computer.
All wired connections, both the WAN port and the LAN ports were DEAD.
I had no option but to upgrade the FW via the wireless connection. I'm aware that updating FW via wireless is not recommended but considering the fact that rebooting the device did not fix the situation, I updated the FW via the working wireless connection.
I know. I'm reckless like that. But if I brick this thing, I'll consider it a blessing.

ok, wow, thats a hard failure for sure, I would definitely call dlink and ask for an RMA. Let us know how that goes. Hope it will be fixed soon.

You're not the only one with the 4 port failure, I tried out the 655 that uses the exact same hardware (minus some gaming options) as well as my 4500 and if I use all 4 ports the unit overheats and the ports all fail (wireless still works though crippled). I'm on my second unit, have tried the 655 like I said and have same issues with this ****py firmware. I will try beta 8 tonight and see if that works over the Beta 3 I'm on. I will say that as long as I am only using a couple of the ports (my main machine and then the other port goes to an 8 port Gig Switch) than no overheating and no loss of connection even after 5, 6 days as was typical before. My problem now is that the router some how doesn't like any DNS that I through at it. Internet is fine but when I try to play Call of Duty 4 multiplayer it takes like 1-2 minutes to get past the splash screen. When I disconnect from the internet it loads right up, when I use my trusy portable linksys WRT54g it works great....so what gives Dlink....FIX THIS STUFF!!!!

my only suggestion....
*****************************
Set logging to only log Firewall & Security and Critical.
That by itself removed all my issues with this router, I was about to scrap it until I read the beta fw thread and someone mentioned the logging issue.

It was the only thing that made ANY difference onmine
