Title: Router disconnects while transferring large files.
Post by: swears on December 19, 2009, 04:50:41 AM
I am in the middle of backing up multiple gigs (100+) from my laptop to the server of LAN. It seems the router cannot handle this. The file transfer fails every 30 minutes or so, saying the connection was lost. The only way to fix it, is to restart the router.

Is this normal?

Are you connected with ur LT over WiFi or direct Lan wired. You shouldn't have any issues over wired. I have been testing Beta 08 FW and wireless is not stable and does disconnect at random intervals. Dlink is working on this. I Hope.  ;)

This isn't an cure to your problem, but might help mitigate the symptoms. Take a look at Teracopy. It transparently replaces windows native copy/move, allows you to resume copy/moves, and does CRCs to make certain it does it error free. Helps out a lot on a spotty wireless connection. Install it on the receiving end, and initiate the transfer on that end. I haven't personally tried the pause/resume on push transfers, but I can say for certain it will successfully resume from the pull side after random disconnects.

well, it's up to you, however using FW beta code 1.21 03 and 08 have been really good as far as wired connections. I would try the beta code and see.

I'm scared to do any type of FW upgrade. This is my second unit. I already returned one that had FW 1.21.

Well you could try 1.15 or 1.16b3, I use the latter, and see how they work out for you.  You'll still be able to roll back to 1.12 if you'd like or go back to 1.15 but if you pass 1.16 then no roll back for you.

OK. Where can I find 1.16b03?

I can't seem to find it anywhere. I've searched the threads as well as the D-Link FTP.

Can someone please provide a link?

Thanks.

I presume that the 1.21 Beta 03 isn't available anymore since Beta 08 is, give Beta 08 a chance, it's been very good for me. Run several PCs and an Xbox. XBL is critical and an pretty satisfied with the performance.

However if your really wanting 1.21 Beta 03, PM me.

Set logging to only log Firewall & Security and Critical.

That by itself removed all my issues with this router,  I was about to scrap it until I read the beta fw thread and someone mentioned the logging issue.
