Title: Definitive answer on random router reboots?
Post by: TomK on December 19, 2009, 06:55:39 PM
1.14,  2008/10/16  is my firmware version.

Current up time, 20 mins...best I can go is about 24 hours...and it decides to reboot at the most annoying times...

Is there a definitive answer for this?  or should I just shop for another router?  I 'upgraded' from a Linksys, just so I could get a gigabit router...was that a mistake?

Thank you for your time.

have you tried beta 08 FW? it's been really good since using Beta 1.21 03. No reboots since. Been happy using it on A1 HW.

With all the posts...I was hoping there'd be a perfect answer.  =)

But maybe I'll try it...

Might not be a definitive answers, however maybe we can help you with finding some resolutions and finding a correction to your issue. Only definitive answers will probably come from Dlink themselves. Hope the FW update might help you.

Version 1.21NA is all that is available from the site I found...

Is this the version I want?

I got the link from the firmware link off the product page.

That verion on the product page isn't stable and has issues. Im currently running Beta version 1.21 Beta 08 and is very stable over wired. Wireless is not as good but is working ok. I'm running several PCs and an Xbox over wired connections and have no problems.
Get the Update here:
ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dgl4500/Beta/Firmware/ (ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dgl4500/Beta/Firmware/)

Let us know how it works.

Merry Christmas

lol...this is becoming repetative...

*****************************

FW greater than 1.13...

Set logging to only log Firewall & Security and Critical.

That by itself removed all my issues with this router,  I was about to scrap it until I read the beta fw thread and someone mentioned the logging issue.

Are you using firmware 1.21 beta 8? Beta 8 has a date of 11/23/2009.

Used the one in the link...

Getting a little annoyed, want to throw this router through D-Links front window....

Which link did you use, the one on the www.dlink.com site or from the beta section in this forum. The one from the main web site is not good. Let us know which link and what the date code that is currently loaded. Please include the date along with the version. Will help you go thru some steps and see if we can do anything to help you.

Were here to try and help each other out, not to boast about other non dlink products. My 4500 is working great using FW 1.21NA Beta 03. Try it, you'll like it.

Before I mess up this router completely...

I'm at 08 rigith now, I disabled all the logging, I get home, and my current up time is only 6 hours...sigh.

Can i just load 03 over 08?

or will there be an issue.

thank you.

Yes, you can load 03 over 08. Sorry that 08 didn't work. Once you applied 03. I would let the 4500 run for a while with out changing or doing any configuration. I would like to see if it runs for a while with out issues if you can do that. Let us know how it goes. I presume that the time you applied the 08 FW and the 6 hours up time isn't the same?

What is ur ISP, Cable or DSL? I have seen my buddies 4500 have issues with up time. Come to find out it was the ISP and his DSL lines causing issues. Just additional info.

If you guys are continuing to have trouble call dlink on the phone and explain it to them.  If that doesn't work then file a bbb complaint and you will get a response.  Don't sit back and complain on the forum if it doesn't work then you need to actively pursue a solution from dlink.  I managed to get a new a2 to replace the a1 that was trashed by the 1.2x fw.  It came with 1.12 and I flashed to 1.16b3 and that is where its going to stay.

Patched.  Was up for about 1 day 6 hours, then the router just stopped working.

Had to unplug the power this time to get it to work this time.

I had my Linksys router for YEARS and never had these problems.

If it wasnt' for the fact that I rewired everything to take advantage of auto-sensing I'd just put it back on-line.  This is a joke.

Is there any log information? Wondering if there could be something else. Sorry that the 4500 isn't working well. I presume this was using standard default settings with out changing anything? I would probably go ahead and call DLink and see what they can do for you.

ok, i'm done...this router is a joke...kudos that have a working one, but for a router that DC's both while I'm working and playing WoW at random times...its a pain the ass.

time to blow more money.

Tom, before you give up, have you tried turning off all of the extra "features"? I run with GameFuel, WISH, and MAC Filtering all disabled. Also, I've read that turning off logging has helped folks with the disconnect issue. Give it a shot, you never know...

Hank

What FW version is currently loaded? I agree with Hank, turn off some features that your not using. I use Gaming and GameFuel, how ever if you don't do any gaming wireless video streaming, turn them off. Also you can turn off Wireless Protected Setup if you don't using any wireless devices that connect securely to the router.

I just bought a 2nd 4500 from a guy on here, A1 HW and have loaded Beta v1.22 03 on it and it's been up and online since Friday evening after I got home. It's running the same configuration as my 1st 4500.

Let us know whats loaded now. Check out my post here which mentions turning off some features.

Answers telling you to disable advertised features is pure bs.  If the router touts functions then they should work and that is that.  D-link lost a lot of customers with how they've handled recent fw screw ups and the problems they've caused their customers.

Been working with v1.21 and 1.22 betas. There all much better than the released 1.21NA on the main web page.

Tired of messing around with D-Link and all the broken promises?  Want to roll your
dgl-4500 firmware back to 1.15 right now?  The two links below have the fix. This
is not a joke.  It works.  Both sites are very reputable and people have tested it.

http://www.ispgeeks.com/wild/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=4224#15926

and

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r23720820-downgrade-possible-DGL4500-12xNA115

Follow the simple instructions and tell d-link where to stuff it.

Christmas was a little late this year but better late than never!
