Title: Can't see drive from USB backup device
Post by: cjmedina on December 22, 2009, 05:21:36 AM
I'm replacing my 2 500GB drives with WD 1.5 TB's

I want to make sure I can still get the files off the drive externally through my portable USB device.

I took the drives out and ran it off the external USB but i don't see the drive.

What can I do?

Thanks

Cliff

Have you tried leaving 1 of the 500GB drive in the DNS-323 and transfer the files to a newly installed and formatted 1.5 tb drive in the other bay of the DNS-323?

Also if you are using the USB port on the DNS-323 for your USB device it will not work.  That port is for printer sharing only in the firmware.

The drives from the DNS-323 are formatted by Linux, so you'll have to have an EXT2 filesystem add-on for Windows if you expect to read them with Windows.

Try this one: Ext2 Installable File System For Windows (http://www.fs-driver.org/ (http://www.fs-driver.org/))

Note that if you formatted these as RAID-0 for some reason, you're out of luck.
