Just found a new firmware on the UK ftp server:
ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/dns_nas/DNS-323/DNS-323_108.zip (ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/dns_nas/DNS-323/DNS-323_108.zip)
Release notes are included in the package.
I'll give it a try ;D
Edit: Add-Ons and Packages are also there:
ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/dns_nas/DNS-323/V1.08%20SWPackage/ (ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/dns_nas/DNS-323/V1.08%20SWPackage/)
Edit 2 : changed subject as it is a Beta release
-
How did that work for you ?
-
hmmm tho not officially released on the dlink.com website yet. ???
-
Still sends an email :

As far as I can see there is a shareport package with it.
I will try it...
-
It comes with shareport Utility 1.15 which also is used with european DIR firmwares.
And it turns DNS-323 USB port into the same shareport as it does in the DIR series.

Just upgraded fw. Big improvement in the operation of the fan for me! Actually turns off now when the temp is good. :)
-
FWIW, my fan has been fine with 1.08b8 here. I've been running the BT client for several days, and the fan is still on low speed and I can't hear it unless I put my ear right on the unit. Temperature reads 43C in the status right now.
-
Right now I can't upgrade FW to the later ones (b08 or b09 UK) since I am in the middle of a massive download session. ::)
But that SharePort Add-on from the UK site works just fine on Firmware 1.08b05 (05aug2009).
Take a look at this screen capture [968x1077 96KB GIF] >> http://i49.tinypic.com/11kweg3.gif <<
OK, since they can get it working THAT way, the connections to transfer data *MUST* be connected inside there! So I cannot see any reason why they can't make it work like any other NAS's USB Port, (including other D-Link NAS's) ???

- or is the firmware file named - NAS202C_DLINKEu_DNS323.1.08b09(1.70.1218.2009)(BETA)

You're right the unzipped firmware file still shows the beta in its name.
(filename was to long to see the end in my exporer )
Sorry

Hello!
Just a quick question - would 1.0.8b UK work with North American devices?
Thanks!
-
I'd wait for at least the "official" beta release, nothing there looks like it's a mandatory update. :)
-
Thanks gunrunnerjohn!
I am quite new to DNS 323 and i am sure you would prefer to answer more challenging questions...
But 1.0.7 does not support streaming of *MKV and i have continuously spinning fan...
If i would install 1.0.8 from the UK ftp server, would that release be compatible with the device purchased in Canada?
Thanks again
skochele

Why not use the 1.08b8 that has a link here in the official D-Link forums? Look in the beta sub-forum for the link.

Just to be curious: 1.08b9 was released on the "official" D-Link GB site - what makes this less official than a release located on the "official" D-Link US site?? ???
Following this logic we should all wait until there is an official release on the Taiwan server - this is their global headquarters...
Happy new year!

It depends on whom you contact for support - if you use firmware not available on the US site, then don't expect US support to assist you.
This can become a problem if you reside in one country and wish to use firmware not supported in that country - sure you can call or email the support group for the country whose firmware you are using, but expect to pay for the call, and expect to be denied support if or when they figure out that you are not a resident in their area.
Of course - these issues only matter if your unit is under warranty.
