Anyone had any luck with a Seagate 7200.12 500 GB ST3500418AS hard drive? I have had a useless experience trying to work with the telephone support, and am somewhat surprised that all 500 gb SATA drives would not work? Basically, when I put the drive in to the NAS and logon to the D-Link web set-up utility through Easy Search the NAS shows up, but I can not format the drive and the utility is not able to read any information to indicate that there is a hard drive in the NAS. Since I can not exchange the hard drive for at least another week, I was hoping I am missing something obvious that might make this drive work in the NAS... Thanks

Have you tested the hard disk connected to a PC? It's possible the NAS is telling the truth. :)

I may have to try that to verify whether the drive is ok. This is the first NAS I have purchased and I just assumed (wrongly) that just like sliding a hard drive into a PC, any hard drive would work. I was surprised when the support people suggested that the hard drive might not be compatible, given it is one of the mainstream hard drives. Does firmware version 1.08 (beta) add any additional drive compatibility to your knowledge?

Each release adds something, and some of the releases have added additional drive support. Many folks complain that if the drive is not "fresh", that you may have problems. That's why I recommend running the manufacturer's diagnostic on it and zeroing it out so it looks like a new drive. Of course, you'll also test it in the process. :)

I guess I will be opening up the computer this afternoon. Thanks for your helpful suggestions.
