We appreciate if D-Link can comment on using the 1.08-B09 version in North America.  I was planning to install B08. However, since the B09 come out in UK, I have stopped and witing it be inteduced by D-Link in this Forum.

If you plan on running the beta in the US, my advice would be to install the 1.08b8 until the new one is released officially in the beta forum.

If a bin if good enough for UK, why it takes D-Link people so long to put in circulation for North America.  I have hard time understanding the time elapse.  Does it really require lots pof checking and change between UK and North America?

No, if you see the last releases, they are the same worldwide - network is network all over the world and until there are no language packs build in to localize the firmwares, there are no differences in the basics.

But the different D-Link offices need to test these firmwares and what is more important in the new version, the applications. So is the new shareport package that comes with the b09 the version 1.15 which is not the same as the newer firmwares in the north american D-Link routers need to use. So you can't use both devices at a time.

They need to build a newer package based on the shareport version used with NA router firmwares. Or leave it  ;)

Also they need to check compatibility with devices only sold in NA - there are a lot of other reasons I can think of.

Last but not least each firmware will run everywhere but if you want support, stay with the version released for your country.

The shareport program works flawlessly on Windows Vista and Win7 but fails completely on OSX 10.5.8

If anyone has been able to get it working on OSX I would appreciate the information. I've tried everything, installing the belkin version, and the SX virtual link version that was mentioned on other sites.

Thanks in advance

Did you try the 1.00b06 Version  ?

ftp://ftp.dlink.de/dir/dir-655/driver_software/ShareportUtility_100b06_macos106_multi_20091113.zip

This is the one running with the newer european firmwares.
But as I don't have a MAC I can't test it ...

It installs fine and you can see the devices connected and it can connect. But refuses to mount any removable memory sticks etc. OSX 10.5.8. I will try it more and let everyone know how it works.

Any suggestions to help get it working.

I'm confused. Is this a beta release or the long awaited official release? It's listed on the UK site and says nothing about being beta except the filename has (beta) in it?

As a follow up it installs fine but no refuses to mount any removable memory sticks etc.

OSX 10.5.8.

Does anyone know of any other versions/ideas. I will try anything and get back about the results.

What is says above about the bug fix for the fan running continuously after upgrading from earlier versions, there is a simple workaround to fix that without the bug fix (if you are running the build 08). Every time I upgraded, it would do the same where the fan would stay on high. If you go into the web interface, and go to the fan settings page (Tools > Power Management), then click on a fan setting other than what it is currently on, and click the SAVE button. Then after it saves, re-set the setting back to whatever you wanted it set on again, and click the SAVE button again, and the fan should now function as it should now. This has always worked for me as a workaround since there was no bug fix in b08. So if there are no other important things in the release notes that make 1.08 b09 worth installing for, then why risk installing it on a North American model if you can make the fan work right on b08?

Sorry if this post is based on a topic that has already been discussed in another string, but I just figured I'd mention about it here.

Build 09 will release here in the US.  You have to understand we have different branches all over the world and sometimes some branches jump the gun on posting firmware. 1.08b09 will release as final however I advise to not use the SharePort package that the UK site has. It is not the same software D-Link NA will launch and ours is fully Mac and Windows Compatible.

I am locking this thread for now, please hang on a little longer for final release and we will make an announcement here on the boards once it is online.
