Strange problem
« on: August 04, 2010, 03:03:42 PM »

Hi!

Today I had installed my DNS-323 with a 1TB hard drive. I had connected the Ethernet cable to the available Ethernet port in my router.
(I emptied the cache of Google Chrome because the progress bar stopped at 94% ;)
I did the mapping and it went through.

Then, when I started the files transferred from my laptop to DNS-323, I saw that the transfer rate was very low.

To speed up the process I thought to connect the NAS via Ethernet cable directly to my laptop.
Strangely, the PC cannot see the DNS-323. :(  ??? Why?

I have Windows 7, 64bit.

Are you using DHCP or static addresses? The most common mistake users make is running dynamic addressing but not have a DHCP server to assign addresses.

FWIW - it isn't likely to be any faster unless your router was extremely busy with other traffic or only 10/100.

You need to assign a static IP address or configure the DHCP server on the DNS-323 if you want to do a direct connection to your computer.

I'd be more concerned with why your format stopped at 94%. That's a known issue on some firmware version(s).
