Any solution to upnp av and xbox 360?
« on: August 27, 2009, 01:29:21 AM »

Dns 323
Firmware 1.08b5
hardware version b2
2 x seagate ST31500341AS 1.5tb hdd
volume type standard
issue with upnp av and xbox 360

My media server works fine with my ps3 and other devices but I still can not seem to get it to work with the 360.  It can not seem to find any files, however when i put the files on a dvd with similar file structure they work fine.  I was wondering if anyone has found a solution.

I have v 1.06 of the DNS firmware
And my 360 still sees and plays my videos on the DNS

After the Aug09 update I had to re-download the "media codec" update on the 360
for some reason they needed to be re-installed.

Try restarting both devices and see if you still have the issue with Xbox. Also try the UPnP AV media server refresh and verify that it completes successful. I use this function daily and have not see any issue playing my videos and I run all Xbox updates when released and running the latest code on my DNS-323.

I can't even get my Xbox Elite to see my DNS323.  Both are hardwired to my Linksys WRT610N.  My Xbox can see a laptop connected wirelessly, running the Zune software, but not the DNS323.

Thanks for any feedback or suggestions?

HI RJRon,

what version of firmware do you have on the DNS-323?
it needs at least v1.06 to function properly

And is UPnP activated on the DNS-323?
If so, try not to share the root... better if you create a folder in the root and share that folder

Also Remember that the XBOX360 does not like long filenames or special chars...
Try limiting you names to 70chars max from the folder that is shared to the video file
and try using only letters - numbers - spaces - dashes - periods and underscores

And if you do any changes to the shared folder, don't forget to click on the Refresh button in the DNS-323 GUI so that your changes are reflected right away

Hi Buhric,
Thanks for responding.

I'm using firmware v1.07, I have enabled UPnP on the DNS, and I created a specific folder (called "Media") where I moved just a few MP3's and pictures for testing purposes.  I've refreshed the DNS and rebooted both the the DNS and Xbox several times since and no luck.

I can't even see the DNS as a device from my Xbox.  Any other thoughts?  I really appreciate your assistance!

Hi RJRon,

silly question... but.... is the XBOX on the same network has your DNS-323?

In the DNS-323... the "Media" folder you created, is that the one shared, or is the "Root" shared?
ie. if its the "Media" folder that is shared, it should say something like "Volume_1\Media" in the DNS-323

try by putting only 1 MP3 in that folder, and give it a simple name like "TEST.MP3"

Click on the REFRESH button in the DNS-323 UPnP Page

Turn on you XBOX and then go to "Music Library"... your DNS should show up...
if not, try the following
disable UPnP
reboot DNS-323
enable UPnP - share the Media folder in UPnP
it should now show in the Xbox... if still not try doing a reset to Defaults of the DNS-323
