D-Link DNS-323
Firmware 1.06
Windows XP
Direct network connection through router
Configured using 2 x WD500GB drives mirrored

After I map the DNS-323 drive on my computer, if I browse the files and try to play an MP3, almost invariably eventually winamp will stall while playing the mp3 for 5 - 10 seconds.  Sometimes it will recover, sometimes it will crash.

Similarly when transferring files from my computer to the DNS-323 it will go OK for about 5-10 minutes then say the path/drive could not be found.  As soon as I click OK I can go back into my computer, click on the drive and it seems to work fine.

Another little glitch I'm having is if playing an mp3 off the drive, if I try to also browse the files on the DNS-323 it will almost always start to skip...I can't imagine browsing files and playing an MP3 would take up *that* much bandwidth...

any ideas?

Not sure what might be causing your particular problem.  Here are some ideas tho.  Any one or none may help depending on your exact problem.  Try experimenting, other folks here may have some additional ideas.

1.  If using BT or other P2P client while you are playing music over your network, be sure you are not using to many connections for your downloads.  You can saturate your connection and choke the throughput.  Could also be any other large amount of network traffic as well.

2.  Try setting a static IP in the DNS-323 LAN setup instead of using the DHCP Client.

3.  Try disabling hibernation in the DNS-323 system settings.
