How to make best use of the 323 iTunes server
« on: November 16, 2009, 10:59:55 AM »

I have the 323 iTunes server up and running without any issues, but I'm not sure how to make best use of it. I start up iTunes on my computer and I see the DNS 323 iTunes server as a shared library. I can play music from the 323 via iTunes no problem .. but is that it?

Is there a way for everyone who has access to my 323 to share and sync the same music? That is to say, use the 323 as a master repository for everyone? Does this do more? If so, what?

Please reply with your exploits!

I have the same question.  I'm looking at home sharing on my Mac network and how to integrate with that.  Also playlists.  I don't seem to be able to set up any playlists using the music on my DNS-323 iTunes server. Is that possible?  Apple support for iTunes says that each iTunes machine needs to be logged in to an Apple account for this to work.  Can you actually perform functions like that from within the itunes server on the DNS-323?

I'm not a big fan of the iTunes server.  I toyed with it for a short time but found the same issue with play lists.  Also, you can't update ANY of the tag info.  I think the issues are related and permissions based.  I turned off the server and just loaded the files from a drive mapping to the 323 into iTunes.  I can create lists and update the library details to my hearts content.
