3rd Party F/W
« on: January 12, 2010, 08:43:04 AM »

Does anyone know of a single location for good clear instructions to setup and use the DD-WRT (is this the only 3rd party f/w available for the 825 B1?) on the 825 B1?

Don't mean to be a PITA but am busy and to research several threads to find the "how to" info won't work for me.  Was hoping to find a single spot that has quality instructions (with pics would be nice) on how to follow the process and to test.

Have you checked the DD-WRT website?

So you're too busy to find the information yourself, you want someone to go research it for you and write you a nice little "dd-wrt for dummies" guide?

In that case, I really don't think you want to try dd-wrt right now, it isn't officially released for this router yet and the version out there has some SERIOUS bugs.  Whatever problems with the stock firmware make you want to switch, you will have at least that many problems with dd-wrt.  I'm not bashing dd-wrt I'm just saying that right now it's not ready for general consumption on this router.

In fact right now, dd-wrt is capable of breaking the wireless on this router in a way that makes wireless non-functional even if you flash the stock firmware back on.  Wouldn't that just shoot your productivity all to heck?

Seriously, give dd-wrt some time, it's not ready yet...  I am as excited as anyone to use it but not until it is a little less buggy than it is right now for this router.  There's a reason this router isn't listed in the dd-wrt router database yet.  They don't want everyone using it on this router until it's ready, only the brave few guinea pigs that can be part of the testing process.

dd-wrt is not officially released yet.   You can wait for guinea pigs to test it or be the one and make some write up for us.  ;D

I'm surely looking forward to an official DDWRT release.  Dlink has really disappointed recently.  They seem to release product then forget about future support.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hellbore: interesting perception.  Good info but I think you took misunderstood my point.

The point I was trying to make is that it's not easy to find good info in threads.  You can spend a lot of time sifting through info that's unrelated or someone sharing their frustrations. Someone may be willing to submit a link to a thread or have updated info if they're keeping watch.  I'm often willing to do just that and have seen other who seem just fine to chime in.
