Unable to add user to network access
« on: May 06, 2010, 05:59:51 AM »

Hi,

I just backuped all data, reset the DNS-323 device, updated to the 1.08 firmware, reformated and setup RAID1 (EXT3 - running 500 GB x 2 WD drives) and dumped back all the data.

I created 3 different user accounts and have been trying to assign access rights to various folders in the NAS.

Everytime I select an account / folder and "save settings" some words in red flashes below, and I don't see the user added in the list at the bottom.

I have tried it various times, selecting different user accounts or different folders. It does not seem to work.

Any suggestions on getting it working will be useful

Thanks.

Which internet browser and version are you using?

Also, how did you restore the data back to the NAS? SMB, USB? Just wondering if the folder permissions are preventing it from working.

Remember too that a user can only belong to one group.

Data was transfered back via SMB.

Default configuration for the NAS is to allow anon access before I started setting up the shares (so no logins were involved to transfer the data).

Was using Firefox to access the webpage (3.x) and there were no plugins like noscript / ad block, etc.

I am aware that a user can be in only one group - actually none of the 3 users are in any groups.

Actually the red words which flashed by seemed something like "saved successfully" but I could not be sure since they are gone immediately.

Strange, I didn't have any issues using IE8 on 1.08 I can only suggest trying it in IE but seeing as you're using Firefox I'm guessing you'd rather not ;)

Just tried in Firefox 3.6.3 and was able to successfully select a folder and allow a user from the list R/W access to it. I saw the red "Setting..." text and animated GIF, then the page refreshed and the item was at the bottom of the list no problems.

I know you reset the NAS, try resetting the network access list?

I did try resetting the network access list a couple of times as well.

The red "settings ..." is the line which flashes to another red line before the same "settings..." returns.

Would be handy to know what the message says. Perhaps the Dlink tech's here would have a better idea...?

I tried it with IE today and it worked.

Not sure why firefox was unable to do the same thing.

I hope the web UI has no IE specific code in it.............

Can't be - I tried it in Firefox (see above) ;)

Firefox configuration problem?

Possibly.

I have to take a good look at what may have happened.

At least it's good to know that it has a reasonably easy workaround (assuming on a known linux OS).

Weird that all other functions except the add user to network access failed.
