Ugh, this seems to be a recurring problem.  Here are my details:

Motorolla cable modem
DIR 615 router rev c, fw 3.11 i believe.
Desktop wired to router with windows 7
PS3 wired
Wii wireless (this is the problem)

Wireless setup:
  • WEP
  • I have the wi-fi security thing turned off
  • Visible is on
  • channel 11
  • 20/40 auto

Everything works great for a day (or so) then I am unable to connect to internet on the Wii (standard 051330 error or whatever)
If I recycle the power on the router, voila, everything is A-OK.
Obviously I don't want to do this everytime I want to use the Wii...
So...before I recycle the power, I try to investigate the problem:
If I go to Wii internet settings, clear, and re-enter them, I can clearly see my SSID for the access point with great signal strength.
However it will not connect, and I get the error. It seems it cannot auto obtain IP.
Wired connection is fine on desktop at this point.
Now, I switch my PS3 to wireless to investigate further, and it connected fine...for now.  I changed it back to wired, then the PS3 failed to obtain IP.  Tried wireless again, and it failed IP again.  I can still see the SSID access point, and the password was correct.
Then I go and recycle power and everything works flawlessly.  What gives?

Since you're not sure on your firmware version, I'll post my advice. I did this work today, hopefully I'm done resetting.

I had the same problem. For about a month, all my wireless devices worked fine (Roku-N, DWA-130 USB adapter, Acer One netbook, HTC G1), but slowly over the last week they stopped working. My wired XP SP3 desktop thankfully kept working, so I found some info on D-Link's site and decided to try updating the firmware.

The FAQ section here: http://www.dlink.com/products/?tab=3&pid=DIR-615&rev=DIR-615
will give you the directions for updating it. The weird thing is, the site gives two different firmware versions, but from the router's option screen (accessed by going to 192.168.0.1 in your browser), there's a third. If you use the firmware update feature, it'll find it for you. I went with the third version after I backed up my configuration settings (it'll tell you how).

After I did that, my devices starting working again, the one holdout was my Roku box. I had to reset it to factory settings and start from scratch, but it finally worked. Another bit of advice, when you first go to D-Link's site, it will ask what version of the 615 you have, the sticker on the router and the box didn't help me to much, so I assumed I had the first version (not B or C).

Hopefully, all this was worth my effort, and not just another daily power reset.

I am at work right now, but I did post the revision as being "C", and the firware was the latest (i think it was 3.11) when I checked it.  That was the first thing I checked when I got this router because I updated a buddy's the day before.

I posted this to another thread too:

Been messing with this for a week now. 1 X desktop(wired), 1 X PS3(wired), 1 X Wii (wireless).  Wii would drop out after a day.  Tried to reconnect it via every method and nothing worked until I cycled power on router and then it was fine.  After a day, same thing.  Tried some new settings yesterday that I read either in this forum or another so props to that guy.  It seems that "standard" settings on this router may or may not work for you, and it really needs to be tweaked for your individual setup.  I set my friend's up and his works great and mine doesn't, with exact same setup, same model.  Here is was I set my router up with yesterday:
Quote from: wainbee
Here's what DOES work though!  Force the router to work on a fixed channel and in a fixed security mode.
  • 1.  Choose Manual Wireless Setup
    2.  Disable Wi-Fi Protect
    3.  Disable Auto Channel Scan - set to CH. 7
    4.  Set security mode to WPA-Personal
    5.  Set WPA mode to WPA only
    6.  Set Cipher to TKIP
Note: no reserved IP addresses, no MAC address filtering or other fancy features employed

I also did this: Channel width?: 20 MHz  (not 20/40), and I set it to 802.11G mode only (not N, G, B or whatever) since Wii is only supports G technology.
Previously, I had "reserved" the IP's for everything (desktop, ps3, and Wii). One time after a router power reset, and everything was connected and working, I connected to my router (192.168.0.1) and could see all 3 devices that were connected, and click "reserve" beside each one and "saved" the settings. Then manually setup my ps3 and wii with everything (gateway, subnet mask, default router, pri/sec DNS, etc etc), so that is still the way I have it.  If (and a big IF) I have success, I will set up another connection on the Wii with an "automatic" set up and test that too.  Will post results...

Well, been going strong since the weekend.  Not one single connection issue.  I just wanted to point out that I never had the problem of getting kicked off-line wirelessly, but rather not being able to connect to the access point  after some time (a day or LESS).
I recommend trying messing with the settings above, one at a time.  I know it sounds tedious but, for example, set it to 20 MHz channel width, then start trying each channel and wait for the problem to arise, then try the next channel??
One theory I have is that some channels are getting interference, not necessarily all the time.  Intermittent interference = intermittent connectivity.  The one problem I have with this is that why can't I re-connect after the line drop?  Why the "re-power" of the unit to get it working again?  Odd.
One other thing I did is, once everything was connected and working, I reserved the clients by doing this:
Click http://www.support.dlink.com/emulators/dir615_revC/310NA/login.htm to start the emulator.
No need to type in the security image. Just click on Log In
Click Newtork Settings on Left
Scroll to bottom, to Number of Dynamic DHCP Clients.  Here I could see my computer (Called Windows7), my Wii, and PS3 all connected.
Now, for each one, do this:
Click "Reserve" on the far right of the client.  This copies all the info to the fields just above, in the "Add DHCP Reservation".  Now click "Save".  Note: You can change the "Computer Name" field to whatever you want.

Now that everything seems to working for me now, I will save my settings, and start changing them one at a time, to see exactly when the problem comes back.  The first thing I will be changing is the "802.11 Mode" option.  What will make testing this a little easier is that the Wii can have 3 connection settings, so I can keep the one that works, and create a new one for testing.  As well, I can save my router settings, and bring back the working setup at any point.

One last thing is maybe try re-flashing the firmware, especially if it came with the latest firmware.  Think of it this way, your computer always works better after it is formatted and a fresh copy of windows is installed.

Any opinoins on any of this from anyone else?
