When connecting a USB-drive to a DIR-685 and accessing it on a PC via shareport I'm getting terrible transfer speeds.
I'm getting between 500 and 1000 kB/s. Have tried both WinXP and Win7 machines as well as connecting through 802.11g and 802.11n. I'm also getting the same ****py speed when I'm connecting via ethernet cable between PC and router.
No firewalls etc.
Is this normal or is something wrong? I should mention that I have not tried using a different USB-drive so I can't be sure that it's compatible. I know that the drive is OK though since I get decent speed when connecting directly via USB.
Edit: I realize that the USB ports are meant to be used for sharing printers etc, I'm just wondering if it's at all possible to obtain decent transfer speeds through them. The reason why I was asking is that I needed to move a rather large file between two computers, and one of them does not have functioning USB ports. I solved the problem by creating a crossover connection. Did not feel like waiting four hours for the damn thing

I do not have a drive inserted in the router atm since I had to "borrow" that one when one of my laptop's drives crashed.
