New Firmware 133NA
« on: February 01, 2010, 01:05:44 PM »

Any comments on this new firmware? Unlike lots of other folks here I have the 1.32NA version along with a DPR1260 print server that is working flawlessly that includes wireless also. Several of you would say if it works don't fix it but I would like to update if there are no adverse affects. Your comments are appreciated.

Like many other users, I was flying high with my DIR-655 for what seems like two years (I even got 4+ friends to buy them!) before the dreaded 1.3x firmware ruined everything. For the last few months (post 1.3x), the longest my router would stay on without a random router restart was around 24 hours. There were a few weeks where it would restart literally every 20 minutes! I had to go down to the local coffee shop to use the freaking internet!! *ANGER*  >:(

I eagerly upgraded to 1.33NA as soon as it was released, anything is better than 1.32NA, right?

As I write this, my DIR-655 status page reports that the system has been up for 3 days, 7 hours, 40 minutes,  and 7 seconds. I ran two VOIP conferences, played an online game for over 2 hours, and watched an entire movie on Hulu. I haven't been able to do ANY of these things for over THREE MONTHS!!

I am honest to God nearly in tears.

The change-log doesn't really go into specifics, and a quick look-through told me that my problem was NOT going to be fixed by this update, but it seems that it was. The closest thing to my random restarts issue was the " Fixed: DNS relay issue ( WAN Slowdown )" note, and that's a serious stretch.

If you are running fine, there is no reason to upgrade. But for those having serious issues with their DIR-655, I hope you're experiences are as successful as mine.

I hope it stays fixed.  :-\

I upgraded to 1.33 and had nothing but problems.  Connection on wireless became terrible.  Playing games and I would freeze for up to 10 seconds creating unbearable lag.  Web pages would load much slower as well.  I ended up going back to 1.21 which seems to be the only firmware to work really well.  I know officially you are not supposed to be able to downgrade to a 1.2x version, but there are ways.
