DIR-655 and DGL-3420
« on: March 27, 2010, 07:38:10 PM »

I don't really see anywhere else to ask questions about the DGL-3420 wireless bridge.  I've been trying to get one to run with a DIR-655 and I'm having issues.

The DIR-655 is running the 1.33NA firmware (recent upgrade).  I don't think the DGL-3420 has been updated since the 1.02 Build 66 firmware it came with.

I hooked the DGL-3420 directly to my desktop and configured with its default static IP and my wireless network settings/password.  My DIR-655 is set up with 192.168.0.100 to 0.199 for DHCP. I have 2 devices with static IPs connected below 0.100 (where the DGL-3420's default 192.168.0.30 falls).

I had the DGL-3420 set up where it would log wireless using my long WPA password on behalf of a desktop or laptop that accept DHCP addresssing.  However, the device I'm trying to use it with doesn't do DHCP.  Either with that device (a programmable logic controller, FWIW) connected or by itself, the DGL-3420 will not log into the router. I've confirmed this by looking at the router logs and seeing where it fails to authenticate.

I could use some ideas on what to change to get the bridge to connect to the router with a static-IP device.  Also, I tried enabling DHCP at the bridge and now I don't know how to access its interface without resetting it.

Thanks for your help.

Bump.

I've thought about re-writing the firmware on the DGL-3420 just in case, but I haven't done that yet.

Bump again.

I've re-flashed the firmware on the 3420 and set it up again. Still having the same problem.

Does anyone know:  ??? ???

1) When the 3420 is connected to a PC and logged into the router, should you be able to get to its configuration page at 192.168.0.30 from another computer logged into the router? I can only get to the configuration from a PC directly connected to the bridge.

2) Why the default gateway setting for the 3420 is 0.0.0.0 instead of the default router IP (192.168.0.1)?

3) Is there any chance that setting the gateway on the device I want to use with the bridge to 192.168.0.30 might work (instead of giving it the router IP- 192.168.0.1)?

Thanks!
