  Long time lurker....first time poster..lol.  Anyways, I have had a problem for some time now and it is really beginning to aggrivate me: every time my wife or I try to upload any files over a few megs (usually pics to kodak or flickr), my 4500 restarts.  Unfortunately this happens on both wireless and wired connections.  I am still (thankfully!) running 1.02 and have A1 hardware.  Other than this issue, the router is ROCK solid, so I guess I got lucky with *****ing hard enough when the firmware issues started about a year back and got a replacement router back to 1.02.  If I take the router out of the picture and connect directly to my modem (ATT DSL Extreme 6.0) I have no issues with file transfers at all.  I have disabled all logs except Firewall & Security and Critical.  I also have a rather high number of errors on the wireless side:  Sent : 1164118 TX Packets Dropped: 0 Received: 1510089 RX Packets Dropped: 0 Errors : 101720. 
  Any suggestions?

Have you tried a different Ethernet cable?

I would re-enable all logs as you need to check and see what the logs are saying and capturing during this event. There's is really no reason to disable any of them.

Yes I would ensure all cables are working well and CAT 5 or CAT 6. Ensure the shortest length of cable running from the DSL modem to the 4500.

I would also read up on Bi Polar Bears postings about ATT DSL. I have been working with him on this issue and the entire event was not related to the 4500. What mode is the DSL modem running in? Bridge, transparent or normal. You can check this from the 4500 in the Device Info section under WAN. If you see a 192.168.#.# address, this could be normal and I have seen some issues with this configuration. Switching the DSL modem to Bridged or Transparent is preferred. I would try Transparent, then the WAN section will show a 2 digit starting IP address, ##.###.###.###. I've seen newer DSL modems include a router function thus giving DHCP services. This is fine however can introduce issues in to the mix as the 4500 should be the main router for a network, not having two routers.

Please detail any other devices connected to the 4500. How are you and your wife connected to the 4500.
If your running well with v1.02 then stick with it. I have other friends that are on the same FW version and are very happy.

I all I presume there is another issue that is causing the reboot that needs to be found.
Let us know some more info.

This large file transfer issue was a show-stopper for me for a couple of other routers from roughly the same era as the 1.02 firmware...but those routers were from both Netgear and Linksys, and neither of those offered firmware upgrades of any kind that fixed it.  (In case you're wondering, I'm brand-agnostic: I've had major trouble with all the brands, but so far the DGL-4500 is working out for me, with very minor issues by comparison)

I'd say there's little risk in moving to 1.15 firmware for you, since it's getting in the way of your use (i.e., it's broke, so fix it).  This was one of the first things I tested when I upgraded, and it works like a champ. (I'm talking transfers of several gigabytes.)

Jury's still out on the 1.22 firmware yet, though...I've started another thread to get/give other user's feedback on it.

  I am/have been running it(modem) in bridged/transparent mode.  I have 4 laptops, a PS3, XBOX 360, Wii, PSP and 3 Ipod touches that connect wireless from time to time and one desktop and a NAS that use a wired connection.  I endbled all logs the other day and dont see anything out of the norm yet, but I plan on clearing the logs and trying a batch upload of pics again to see what the log reports.  As I said earlier, if I bypass the 4500 and go into the modem hardwired with any of my computers (after taking it out of bridged mode) I can upload files all day long with no issues which lead me to the router being the issue.  On a side note, I have a mix of B, G and N devices on my network, but I had to disable N as the connections were VERY unstable and would drop on a regular basis.  I am getting more and more N devices and would love to enable this....any thoughts or is it time to drop the lemon and move on?

I would update the FW to v1.15. This seems to have the best WiFi stability however v1.22NA is good too. I haven't had any disconnect with either. I have a 2nd 4500 here that's running it. I'm using my 1st 4500 thats on v1.22NA.

I would do the following:
Save off your current config file for the 4500.
Do a factory reset and reboot. Don't do any configuration on the router.
Connect up one pc and do some testing, upload some files and see what goes one.

If still acting the same way, Download the v1.15 FW. I can help you with this if you need, PM me.
Apply the update.
Do a factory reset after the FW update.
Connect up one PC and do some testing. Upload some files and see if this works better.
If so, Apply your saved config file and reboot.
Do more uploading, if uploads aren't good then it could be something in the config file that's not set up right and then you would have to do a factory reset again and then manually go back and start re-configuring the 4500 to you needs.

Hopefully this will help you figure out whats going on. Please review my Gaming and GameFuel sticky. You don't have to use them however there is good information about setting up some DNS entries and WiFi.

Also check to see if UnPNP is enabled, it should be. Let us know how it goes and hope to hear back.

Running 1.15 now and no re-boots...did some heavy testing uploading today and all is well.  1.15 seems to be working for me so far...8 hrs uptime and all is well....we shall see.
