exspand range on router

My router is placed in the basement, but when i use my laptop wireless at the first floor, the signal i a littel weak.

How do i set op, a second access point up (as a repeater or what you call it), so my computer only see one network?

Internet -> Dir-655 -> wireless -> access point -> wireless -> laptop
