Using DIR-825 as a switch disables routing features?

So I'm using the DIR-825 as a switch, so all the DHCP jobs are being handled by my modem. Although while using it as a switch I'm not able to use QoS, access control, etc. for some reason...

Do I need to make the DIR-825 the DHCP server to use QoS and Access control? Would it my network less efficient?

Don't plug the "internet" wan cable into the WAN port, just plug it into say PORT1.  I did that for a super old WRT54G and working perfectly in my office.

If you say had DD-WRT for a firmware, you could assign your WAN port as something else.

How would i go about bridging them anyways? I got a 2wire 2700 HG-E and the Dir-825 connected to each other using just the lan ports.
