Having an issue with the game Asheron’s Call not connecting to server with DIR-825.
Issue: When I launch the game, it comes up with the connecting to server screen which then supposed to check for updates. It however is never able to connect and eventually times out.
Basic Information:
• Running Vista 64-Bit
• Have the DIR-825 firmware v. 1.00
• Using wireless N with laptop.
• No Anti-Virus/Anti-Spamware software (uninstalled for now)
• Windows Firewall (made exceptions)
• Cable modem
This game used to work for me about a year ago but the only change I’ve implemented since then is the new router (DIR-825), I used to run the Linksys WRT54G and I never had an issue with this game after I port forwarded 9000-9013.
Developer Solution: You open up ports 9000-9013 UDP for the machine that is using Asheron’s call. The developer states that it uses “loose” UDP to contact the authentication server. This however did not fix my problem.
Troubleshooting Steps:
1. Disabled Windows firewall even though the exceptions were made.
2. Enabled port forwarding to the correct computer, left box checked.
3. Ran a port forwarding test tool and all ports were confirmed to be open.
4. Bypassed router and had a physical connection with laptop straight into the cable modem. I was able to connect to the game server, this told me two things: The issue isn’t with the laptop or the ISP, must be the router.
5. Tried talking to the DLink TS and they really don’t have any idea what their doing. Zero help
6. Went into the routers firewall settings and disabled SPI. I also set UDP Endpoint Filtering to “Endpoint Independent”. This did not fix the problem.
7. As a last resort I set my computer to the DMZ and this still did not fix my problem.
I’m officially out of ideas, I know it has to be this blasted router but I don’t know of any other settings I can change that could be blocking any incoming UDP packets. If any of you guy’s know of a fix or any ideas I should try please let me know.
