PROBLEM USING DAP 1522 TO EXTEND NETWORK
« on: February 23, 2010, 06:49:42 AM »

hello...i just got the 1522 and the dir 655 router. i am trying to set up an extended wireless network at my office.  i have 2 buildings...my computer/modem and new router in one building (my office), and then i am trying to use the 1522 in the second building to extend the signal to cover that building. the second building is maybe 150 feet away, unobstructed.

i set up the 1522 (set to bridge) by push button in the room with the router at first. connected fine. i took it to the closest room in the second building where i could get a signal from the router. it connected fine.

the problem is that is doesn't seem to extend the range/signal much at all. it won't even reach into the connecting room behind the room with the 1522. in other words, it would be like having the 1522 in the den and it not extending the signal to the kitchen next door.

this is a wooded building...no concrete walls.

am i using the wrong peice of equipment or have it set up wrong? please help.

DAP-1522 is not a repeater or WDS bridge to extend your wireless network.
It works as a client (bridge) and can connect additional wired machines via its switch to your network
or it works as accesspoint, but then it has to be connected by wire to your network.

For your purposes you need to connect an additional accesspoint to the DAP to cover your second building.

Or you need to buy to different devices with WDS-bridge capability.

yes, either one router and a range expander (repeater)
Or two devices that are wds-bridge compatible.

Both is almost the same in the result, it will expand your wireless.

The DAP-1360 together with your DIR-655 would fit.
