Lose Internet Connection Weekly and Speed Drops
« on: February 07, 2010, 07:23:48 AM »

Hello everyone. I am having an issue losing my internet connection while connected to the router. I am also experiencing slower speeds while on the router. This morning I woke my PC up and I had no connection to the internet. The network was working OK, but I had nothing on the internet side. I am on Comcast DOSCIS 3.0 on a CISCO DPC300 cable modem. I am going from the cable modem to the router and then to my PC. I am running XP Pro SP3 and the firmware on the router is 1.21NA. I power cycled the router for 30 seconds and then I was back online. I know it's not my internet connection b/c I was connected from the Cisco Modem to my PC for 3 weeks and no loss of connection and noticed no loss in speed. Is there anything that I am doing incorrectly? I can't understand why on a weekly basis I have to power cycle the router in order to have internet. Not to mention I lose a bit of speed while going through the router. Any suggestions?

THANKS!!!
JEFF

Ya you need to upgrade to v1.22NA, v1.21NA wasn't a good stable release. Had known issues if dropping the internet. Update, will fix it.

I'm guessing that you are running under 2.4ghz, you may want to monitor your wireless card to make sure you are not downgrading to "G" from "N" from time to time. At least when running 5ghz you wont have this kind of problem.

For now you have the option to update your firmware or if you have the time I would suggest maybe running your wifi to 5ghz only if your card is capable running under that frequency. if all fails I would try updating the firmware to 1.22NA, for my opinion.  ;D

I'm not gonna update for the time being. Too many horror stories so if it works dont fix it. I havent tried running it at 5ghz so I'll give that a go and see what happens. Thanks for the input

I cant run it on 5ghz because it's not compatible with G which means I would have to wire the 2 PS3s up and that's just not possible.

This is rediculous I spent like almost $200 dollars on a DGL 4500 gamming router that does not even come out with good firmware....I updated to 1.15 thinking hey there is an update sweet....wrong....my router worked just fine with firmware 1.02 and now i am stuck with a router that i cnt port forward or tweak because every time you hit the save settings it automatically reboots and does not save your settings....what a peice of shize.. They should have to give refunds for **** like this...and to top it off they still have no fix for it...nice support more like we got your money and now your screwed.....Oh yeah and i tried reverting back to 1.13 and everything goes well except that after it says successfully uploaded I go back in and it still says firmware 1.15 imagine that.....Anyways, I will give it a little bit before I bad mouth this to all my coworkers and fellow servicemen about not too buy this or any D-link router....which being in the military I come across alot of people...
I mean I understand that things come out and they have an issue and they release a fix for that but not D-link the only decent firmware they have came out with that seems to work is the original 1.02 how do you releaselike 3 bad ones in a row....It's called R&D people do it..... because how in the heck did they test this firmware out and not have these issues...
Anyways I would greatly appreciate any tips or fixes or help with this not saving my settings issue..thanks

I feel your pain.  I was originally on 1.02 on my A1 (worked great) and upgraded the firmware and had nothing but issues.  Went to an A2 and same problems.  Finally gave up and went and bought a Linksys WRT610Nv2, flashed it with DD-WRT firmware...zero issues and everything is working great.   ;D

Only thing that I can recommend to help you is to try a 30-30-30 reset on the device and re-input your settings manually.  Never restore an old config to a new firmware...you're just asking for issues.

For a 30-30-30 reset (which will completely clear the NVRAM on the device), with no cables attached except for the power cable, hold in the rest button for 30 secs, do not release the reset button and unplug the device for another 30 secs, do not release the reset button and replug your power plug and hold the reset button for another 30 secs with the power back on.  In other words, hold in the reset button for the entire time.  Plug in your lan cable and reconfigure from scratch.   ;D

Hey, let us know that is the problem with the router. I understand your frustrations however please let us know what is exactly wrong. Be detailed. I have an A1 using v1.15 and it works great. Let us know your ISP service, dsl or cable and what you have connected to the 4500. Maybe we can help you.

Can you explain the steps you took? Did you do the 30-30-30 reset along with the firmware update? What firmware is working? Thanks.

Torano, are you having problems with you 4500? Please detail us some info, maybe we can help.

Please review my Gaming and Gamefuel, doe have good info for general use and setup. You don't have to use the gaming and gamefuel.

What FW is currently loaded on your 4500?

Hey there! I actually upgraded the FW to 1.22NA. I have been using it now for a few weeks and so far so good. No dropped speeds, no wireless drop outs or anything to speak of. So far so good, of course if something does happen I will report back here. GOOD LUCK!
