VPN not working for DIR-628
« on: December 09, 2009, 06:40:55 PM »

When I connect directly to my shaw cable modem, the VPN works great. However, when I hook my laptop up to the router, I can connect to the VPN, but not see or access any files. I have the following settings in my firewall setup.

SIP: disabled
NAT Endpoint filtering:
UDP - Endpoint Independent
TCP - Address Restricted
Anti-Spoof Checking: disabled
ALG configurations: all enabled

Ultimately, I would like to be able to work wirelessly on the VPN, but even wired to the router would be better than having to hook up directly to the shaw modem.

Which VPN "client" are you using?  I have successfully got the Windows "built-in" VPN client working.

I am using a Shaw cable modem in Edmonton (their "High Speed" service) and a DIR-628 router. No problems using VPN either wired or wireless. I don't have anything special set up for VPN; just what comes with Windows XP home and professional (the PC on the wired connection is running XP home, the PC on the wireless connection is running XP professional).

Most VPN "client softwares" default to redirect all network traffic to the "remote network gateway."  Because of this, you will not be able to see any local network files, drives or printers.  It should also be note that most VPN connections can also not permit the access of "remote network" drives or printers. This is because of the NetBIOS name resolution issue.  This may not be correctly configured which blocks access network "url" shared name (\\PC1\C:) but still allows the IP address to be accessed (\\192.168.1.1\C:)
