DIR-655 or Laptop ? web access
« on: March 04, 2010, 11:02:51 AM »

Hi all,   I have a strange problem,  since we installed a DLINK DIR-655 Router at work, we have one laptop than can not access certain https websites,  or rather it can access the site, but it takes up to 5 minutes to open or even time out. When the person take the same laptop home where he has ADSL via a DWL-2100AP he can connect to the same site without problems and in less than a minute.  This led me to believe that it has something to do with the DIR-655, but then again all the other PC's on the network can connect to the said website (Online Banking Secure site)

Any ideas or pointers will be much appreciated. Thanks ???

Wow, I wish wireless networking were more of a science and less of an art.  I really don't have much to offer but it sure sounds like something is unique on the laptop.  Is this laptop using the same adapter card?  Is it managed by the same client software (Win Zero/PROSet wirless etc.)?  Are the settings of the laptop adapter exactly the same as the others?  Are the internet options set the same?  If the answers to all these questions are that they are all the same then I'm at a loss.  Try plugging in a usb adapter card in the problem laptop and see if that fixes the problem.  If it does then the issue is with the built in adpater card or it's client software.

Check the Wireless adapter properties (Device Manager) and make sure "n" speed (or "g") is set to auto.
On my laptop, the wireless card was defaulted at 20 Mhz.

Hope this helps.

if 5 people can put a puzzle together, but the sixth person can't, is the problem with the puzzle or the sixth person?
