How to keep a computer off the internet ?

Hi,

I have an old xp box which im going to use for media storage and have a few questions.

1)  I'd like to keep this box off the internet for most of the day (just going online for a few mins here and there to download virus updates etc) and am wondering if access control is the best way of doing this ?


2)  If it cant connect to the internet is it relatively safe from being hacked from the outside ?


My priority is obviously avoiding it being hacked since it will be on all the time and so would be a good zombie machine :)
