UPNP client for iPod/iPhone/iPad?
« on: April 13, 2010, 03:36:51 PM »

Anyone out there have a favorite UPNP client for the iPod/iPhone/iPad that you use with the DNS-321's built-in UPNP server?  Seems like all the apps I look at want to run their own server package on my PC, seems like a waste to have to keep that powered up just to watch something stored on the NAS.

As far as I know ipod/ipad etc do not run over standard UPNP AV and require some other application in order to stream to them.

If You just want to stream photos, you can try media link, it is free. and if you want to stream xvid and other media format you can try AirPlayer.

SMB Music is good for music files and album art. Uses SMB/CIFS unsurprisingly.

Have any of you had luck streaming via 3G?  I've tried using 8player and AirPlayer and both will see my uPnP over the network with no problem, but I can't seem to get them to see the network over 3G.

It's possible I'm setting up my port forwarding incorrectly, but it would be great to confirm functionality from outside the LAN.

Thanks,

Todd
