download speed is fine, upload speed is not up to par...
« on: April 26, 2011, 11:56:33 PM »

Okay, my Internet plan is supposed to be 10 Mb/1 Mb.

Wired connection from laptop to router to modem-10 Mb/.59 Mb (there is a period in front of the 5).

Using Google Chrome + speed test.net = 10 Mb/.59 Mb.

Wired connection from laptop to modem-using Google Chrome + speed test.net = 10 Mb/.95 Mb.

There has got to be a setting somewhere in the router I can change to achieve the best upload speed.

Both tests were conducted with all the regular programs I run. Nothing seems to really affect the upload speed when my laptop is connected directly to the modem.

I also e-mailed my ISP to see if there were any ports I could forward.
I do not expect to hear from them very soon because I just sent that e-mail before I wrote this post.

I did not bother trying to experiment with my current settings, because everything seems to be running fine. I didn't really want to screw that up.
But, having that extra upload speed will help With Modern Warfare Two.

Any ideas, suggestions? Any feedback/help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

I would recommend setting a manual upload speed via the router interface. But you stated above even when you go wired, straight to the modem you still get a .95. Which in terms means it is not the router but your ISP.

Even though ISP say "UP too" in there speed plans, this doesn't mean that you'll always see those speeds every time. You should see close too most of the time. However you have to realize that speeds depend on many variables and standards. Traffic times, who else is on your network in your neighborhood. How well your system is set up and devices connected. Where there any programs or other deviced connected and running while you were speed testing Speed test the wired connection only. Wireless can't provide a constant signal for speed testing.

I too have 10Mb Down and 1Mb UP. Up always fluctuates between .5 and .9.

It's easier if you put 0.9 or 0.5 in your numbers.  We were taught that in chemistry class.  It's to show absolute value and then you have no questions about what the number is (if your precede the decimal with a zero).

No charge for the lesson.  :P

Yea, there is going to be some loss when going through a router. If you were saying it was going from 5 up to 0.5 up..I would be more hopeful of a resolution, otherwise it may just be the way it is. Your best bet to issqueek out as much performance from is as possible is to either set up a gamefuel rule for what ever device you want to be the fastest, or disable it all together, along with Automatic upload. To some degree though, its like squeezing water from a stone.

thanks for all the information guys.

@Kargo funny guy :-)

My Internet plan before Good Friday was 6 Mb down/0.5 Mb up.

They were having a sale I could not pass up.

I was so excited about it I forgot to change my manual upload speed from the last plan.
I added a 30% to 0.5 Mb up.
Thanks for reminding me to change that upload speed. He He :-)

After changing the upload speed & running another speed test.
It's right where it should be. :-)

Thanks for reminding me guys!

Well I was thinking more like LIMElight. The club or the application (RIP) take your pick.
