Lost connection to DNS-323
« on: March 28, 2010, 08:47:02 AM »

After more than a year of problem free use I have lost connection to my DNS-323 this morning.
Both LEDs (network and HDD) are solid blue. Can not turn it off using power button on the face.
How safe it is just to pull power cord on the back of the unit to get it restarted?
Any other suggestions to get it back to life

Well, if the power button doesn't work, the next thing I'd try is the reset button.  This may reset it to factory defaults, depends on how "wedged" it really is.  If that doesn't allow you to find it, yanking the cord is about the only thing left.

Yeah, I have tried that thing as well. No luck.
I'm just afraid that when I pull the cord out it may damage my hard drive.

There a remote chance it might corrupt data on the hard drive, but it won't damage the drive.  It really shouldn't affect it at all, I doubt it's writing to the drive in the state you describe.

I've got the unit restarted pulling cord out and plugging it back.
It is up and running now.
Thanks for your help.
take care
