Wired switch problem.
« on: March 11, 2010, 08:00:06 AM »

Hi, I am currently building a wired Gb network with D-link equipment. I have two Dlink DGS-1005 (Green series) switches and I am trying to add a DAP-1522 for Wireless features. The entire network is Cat6. The problem occurs when trying to connect the DAP-1522 to one of the 1005s. I have no problem connecting the two DGS-1005 switches, but when I replace one of them with the DAP-1522 it wont connect. The LAN port lights wont go on. I have tried connecting all sorts of ways.

Modem - Dap-1522 - DGS-1005. This one makes the DAP-1522 work but not the DGS-1005.
Modem - DGS-1005 - DAP-1522. DGS-1005 works, but not DAP-1522.
Modem - DGS-1005 - DGS-1005.  Both DGS1005 work.
Modem - DGS-1005 - DGS-1005 - DAP1522 - Everything works. but the setup is all wrong for my network.

Is the cable length a issue here? The distance from the device after the modem to the next is about 8 meters. The rest is only 2-4 meters.

Thanks for any help.

Hi.  Does the DAP-1522 have the latest firmware?
In Setup - Network - LAN connection type is dynamic?
Can you connect each switch to a port on the DAP-1522 to test?
Is the switch set to AP mode.

More information needed. How do you connect the modem? What brand and type of modem do you have? Is the modem also a router?

Hi.  I'm using a WestTell DSL modem connected to a Cisco Pix firewall (but I did not configure it).
I have a TrendNet 24-port 10/100 switch connected to the firewall.  Then I just plugged a LAN cable into the DAP-1522 from the switch - I think it must be changed to DHCP for LAN connection type otherwise it'll insist on using 192.168.0.50 for it's IP address.  The switch is on Bridge mode.  The PC is setup with DHCP.

I'm thinking you should be able to plug your two switches right into the DAP-1522.  Then connect the DAP-1522 to your Internet modem.

From looking at the Dlink site, the DGS-1005 switch doesn't have anything you can change via software.
It's likely a software setting in the DAP-1522.
