For some reason I had issues with installing the dns-323 with my xp desktops, so I used my vista notebook to format/install the dns-323. Everytime my notebook restarts, it says new hardware found and then it ask for the drivers. If I don't do it, I can't see the drive.

Any advice?

Well, what I did was for each of my computer, I put in the CD and mapped/connected it and assigned the drive letters. I guess you don't need to do this for every computer? The other way to see the drive is if I click on the "my network places" folder, I can see it. But in Vista, it doesn't show up sometimes. So I installed the drivers again and from the network folder, I created a short-cut to the desktop. I restarted the notebook, sure enough, it's asking for the drivers again, but my shortcut is still there and I can access it.

This thing is still a little confusing to me, but all 3 of my pcs can see it now.

I've never really understood what those drivers actually do.  I have no issues at all seeing the DNS-323 from any version of Windows here, including 2K, XP, Vista, and Windows 7.  I've mapped drive letters in XP and Windows 7 for permanent connections, they work just fine at well.  There's no reason it won't work in Vista, and I have mapped drives to the box in the past, but I just use it through network browsing at a rule.

I'd totally uninstall the drivers and throw away the CD!

Thanks! Now I'm tackling a printer issue. Can you help me with that? I've started another thread.

I guess I never had an issue. I just wasn't looking in the network folder to see the dns. I was using the mapped drive. When restarting the computer, the mapped drives will disappear. But I don't care now, I'm using the network folder from now on.

If you make the mapped drives persistent, they should come back.

The drivers are just for LLTD and provide an icon that looks like the actual unit when you see it under Network. Other then that they are not necessary to use the DNS-323.
