Does Xbox 360 works with USB Gigabit Ethernet Adapter?
« on: April 14, 2010, 11:28:28 AM »

OK I been checking lately about my Xbox 360. It doesn't run gigabit speed. It only runs 10/100 mbps. When I check PS3 is work with gigabit speed 10/100/1000 mbps. Now I want my xbox to run gigabit speed. Do you guys know any other ways to enhance the speed. I been checking about usb gigabit ethernet adapter, but does it work with Xbox 360 because I don't want to buy something if it doesn't work with Xbox 360. Yes I have a gigabit modem sb 6120 and gigabit dlink 4500. My ethernet is cat 6a stp.

But do you have gigabit internet?  Doubt it.  Do you even have 100mbit internet?  Doubt it.  60mbit, which might be more realistic network throughput for 100mb connection?  Doubt it.

wtf are you doing on an xbox that needs 100mbit?  I thought MS has a wireless N adapter at least.

I've never tried this. I know they do make a Wireless N adapter. I think they probably don't support any addition of a higher speed NIC or USB NIC. I presume that the FW is set to look for the Wired or there wireless cards that are proprietary for XBL. I would call XBL and ask and see.

A. 100Mb isn't gigabit. Giga=1000.
B. I highly doabt you have a 100Mb connection.Unless your paying 45,000 dollars for a OC3 line, or the test your taking is inaccurate. Or your looking at the connection  rate, not the throughput.
C. If your Xbox caps at 10/100, you can't get above 100Mb network speed. The Chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.
D. You won't get 1000Mb from a adapter. Theoretical limit is 432Mb, with a real life usage of about 80Mb. So going USB is only only going to slow you down.

Long story short, unless your using your Xbox as a Multimedia unit (which is possible) then don't worry about it.
