bridgeje, downgrade to the 1.31RU, and your problems will disappear.  It's that simple.  Not only that, since I've downgraded, my router has behaved better then ever, stronger signal, and stable as a rock.

Direct link to the downgrade bin file, just upload it into your router and off you go.  After you do that, you can just keep it as is, or flash 1.31EU or 1.21 or whatever you want.  I kept it as is, cuz it works flawlessly.

Looks like somebody found a workaround for this.

I don't think there is any saving this DIR-655. I was ecstatic that at long last with firmware at 1.33NA that the SharePort was finally working properly only to be frustrated later that same day (March7) to discover that now the SecureSpot web page comes up every evening when I open my browser. Hello is anyone at DLink actually testing these upgrades????? I am just about ready to pull the plug on this unit and reconnect my old SMC barricade which ran flawlessly for years. Downgrading the firmware will most likely bring back the SharePort failure and that was one of the main reasons I bought this thing.

To my fellow DIR-655 survivors I feel your pain and share your woes but I will NEVER purchase a DLink product again. >:(

I'm with you on that. I was annoyed when it first showed up after upgrading but I was ok with it once I disabled it. However since it started filtering web pages even while off I am no longer happy.

Even though it's not doing it anymore for me (someone must have fixed something, somewhere) I have lost all faith in my router. I fully expect that securespot is still churning away collecting all sorts of information to send home to Big Brother D-Link.

I too am now a former D-Link customer, I'll continue to use this router until such a time as it dies, I get too frustrated with it (and probably throw it out the window), or something comes along that I think is better. Since most things are going to be better than this POS I expect that to come along rather quickly.

Here's another frustrated user experiencing the issue, I have 1.33NA and the problem is now getting frequent. It took me 20 minutes to finally get in this forum.

I know the turn BSecure ON then OFF thing but it does not always work. Also try power cycling the router and even my cable modem then pray that it allows me to get to the NET.

I was thinking of downgrading to 1.32 but from the previous posts, it doesn't resolve this bug either.

Is this forum monitored by DLINK at all?

Same problem here.  It's maddening.  I want to bite somebody!  And not in a good way!

Doesn't seem to be anymore. The only regular seems to be the troll EddieZ. Anytime you see a post by him, a red flag should go up immediately.

Doesn't seem to be anymore. The only regular seems to be the troll EddieZ. Anytime you see a post by him, a red flag should go up immediately.

We should all be emailing D-Link support at 24-hour intervals until we get some action.  We should also post on other forums (like dslreports.com), and write to tech journalists, especially any who've favorably reviewed this piece-of-crap router.  If that doesn't get a response, we should start spreading the word on Twitter, Digg, Facebook, etc.

Further research reveals that several months ago, D-Link issued firmware (v. 1.22, I think) without SecureSpot.  They knew there was a problem.  But later versions all have it, and once you upgrade to 1.3x, as we all presumably have done, you can't downgrade to the non-SS firmware

Clearly the eternal quest for more cash-flow is controlling things at D-Link at the expense of quality.  If they won't respond quickly to this problem, then the only answer is to spread the word and hurt their sales.

I'd suggest continuing this discussion here since it is the thread with the most responses per this topic:

This is ridiculous.  I have securespot DISABLED on my router, and have for a long time, now all of sudden it's preventing a computer (one of four) on my network web access, instead trying to connect to dir-655.bsecure.com.  This is very strange and very frustrating.

Also, I don't want to downgrade firmware because of this:

OK people... Let's try getting them to fix this via PR war... DLINK has FACEBOOK and TWITTER follow pages...  Post and let them know how you feel about the included MALWARE!

Honestly, as much as I am peeved about SecureSpot disrupting the ability of my network to reach the internet while it was disabled, it's kind of a non-issue if the enable/disable button works in the 1.34 beta, don't you think?
