Can't seem to be able to format new WD20EZRX
« on: August 25, 2013, 09:12:37 AM »

Hello Forum users,

I've been using DNS-321 for a while (Two 2 TB drives - WD20EARS) in a RAID 1 configuration.  Couple of weeks ago I received "drive fail" and "RAID degraded alerts), and I bought a new 2 TB drive (WD20EZRX)

I powered down the DNS-321 enclosure, and replaced the faulty drive (LH location) with the new one..

So, now I have 2 x 2 TB drives = WD20EARS and WD20EZRX

When I logged into web UI console, I get the message indicating .. there is a new drive.. need to format / rebuitd / automatic etc.,

DNS-321 tries to start the "format / RADI rebuild", and it doesn't seem to do anything after that..
- It displays the status bar indicator .. which is at 0% (even after few hours)
- Disk indicators (LED's) : Left drive is off, Network is on / blinking, Right drive is ON

Firmware version 1.03, Hardware version : A2

Wondering anyone there can point me in the right direction., so that I can go past the formatting issue..

Appreciate all your help.

Thanks,
Sam.

Hi,
Assuming you have pulled the problem drive and run WD Lifeguard for Windows, try just connection the drive to a computer and delete all partions and volumes.  Then reinstall and try again.  Not sure it will work but worth a try.  Good luck

Hi Cable2,

Thanks for the suggestion..  I don't have desktop where I could connect the drive directly, as I only have laptops.. I was able to copy all the data, and reformat both hard drives.  Everything seems to be functional now.

Thanks,
Sam.
