I've had a DIR-655 running firmware 1.02 for three years. I've never really had a reason to upgrade the firmware, and the last time I looked there was no option to upgrade while saving my settings. I have MAC addresses, port forwarding, and schedules set up that I just don't want to set up again if I can help it. And I've been reading about all of the problems people have had after upgrading. Anwyay, now I have a Wireless N adapter (AWLL5077) for my netbook and it only connects at 30-45 mbps when the specs say it should be connecting at 150 mpbs. I have tried everything in the sticky except upgrading the firmware. I have several other wireless devices that use g (including a Wii) so I have it in 802.11ng only mode, channel width Auto 20/40 MHz, WPA-Personal/WPA2 Only. I saw one post on the reviews of the adapter where someone said s/he got it working with the DIR-655 after some fiddling but s/he didn't elaborate.
Should I upgrade my firmware? If so, to which version? I have no interest whatsoever in SecureSpot, so I'm thinking 1.20 looks promising. If I do upgrade, will it save my configuration or will I have to rebuild it? Do you think this will solve my N speed issues? Lastly, are there any security flaws fixed in these firmware updates or are they purely feature enhancements?
