Design flaw
« on: April 21, 2010, 01:16:10 AM »

Has anyone else noticed a embarrasining obvious design flaw with the 4500? I have had 4 D-link routers before this one, and none of them were effected. I speak of the factory reset button being right next to the power input, being the same sized, and requiring less preasure to activate? Every other power adapter I have had before the 4500 has been pretty much the same. Just seems the absolute worst place to put it.

I would agree to a point, however it's really not that hard to look at the back of the unit and place the power plug into the correct receptacle.  :o And how often does one really need to plug in the router?  :P

How often? Every time I need to power cycle it. And the odd thing is..you might think its a small thing, but most designers pay attention to the small things. Ever notice very few routers have power buttons? I think like..2 on the market? They were concerned people would accidently press it. Notice how Motorola added a standby button from the SB5100 to the 5101, then patched it in the 5120 to turn it off, and then complely removed the button in the 5101U. Not to mention the power adapter is cheap compared to every other adapter I have bought from D-link. Shorter length, less insulation, etc. I think they just got a deal from some no name vendor in Tianjin.

But like you said, its not a big deal. Just seems strange to skimp on your flagship model.

And if you think about it, if you some how by chance get that plug into the reset hole, I don't think it's going to do anything while there is no power applied.  ;)
