Dropping connection to router
« on: July 25, 2010, 08:43:42 PM »

Modem was first a Speedstream 4100, replaced it with an Actiontec GT701D as I tried to resolve the issue.

modem ----- 655 ----- wireless/wired machines
x.x.0.1      x.x.25.1

From time to time I lose connection to the internet.  During the outages I can't ping 0.1 but I can ping/login to 25.1 without a problem.

Using the system check I can ping 0.1 directly from the router so clearly it is the fault of the 655.

DNS relay on/off doesn't make a difference (but since the router is blocking even pings to the modem IP address this is no surprise)

Is there any solution to this?

The Actiontec GT701D is a modem and router so you may be facing double DHCP and NAT.

Turn off DHCP and NAT at the modem or at the DIR 655.
You only want one device performing DHCP and NAT on the network.

Exactly same happens to mine, drops connection for 30 sek, and gets back online by itself, sometimes it happens 5 times within 20 min other times it can be hours between.

Doesent seem to be any specific stuff triggering it, it can happen when browsing only or playing wow only - and then again sometimes it can run firefox utorrent and play wow at the same time without any problem.

Funny thing is the wireless stays online its only the cable lines that drops!?
Ive tryed 2 different ISP both PPPoE 3 different modems in bridged mode same drill...

ive updated the firmware a few times without any luck on solving this issue. So atm. im using the standard router thingie that goes with my ISP whitch arent really any hit, but it keeps me online:)

Anyone tryed the same and found a way to work around this?
