I can't quite figure this one out...

Testing my Comcast ISP download speed via speedtest.net it's 13MB (when the computer is connected directly to the router).  When I put my new router (fully updated firmware) between my cable modem and computer my download speed is now 6MB!?  I understand that I'd take a little performance hit, going through a router.  Would you guys agree that something odd is going on?

The router I'm using is:
D-LINK Xtreme N Gaming Router (DGL-4500)

I would run thru the gaming and gamefuel sticky. You don't have to use the Gaming or Gamefuel settings however there is additional settings to check for. I would make sure primary and 2ndary DNS addresses are entered in to Internet/manual settings.

What speed service are you using? speedtest.net?

I'm also on cable at 10Mb and usually see 8-9 at least. There shouldn't be a major drop like that at all. I'm using v1.22NA FW as well.

Another factor I'm living in an apartment complex.  Just can't get over the download difference, direct connection to the modem I get 13MB down... once I'm behind the router I get 5-6MB.

i would say that there could be an issue in the configuration of the router if your seeing slow down after connecting to the 4500 vs direct to the cable modem. If you don't game then you can turn them off or not use them. However some of the other settings might help. Check on the firewall settings, DNS, DNS Relay, things like that, it's all listed in the sticky.

The router should work well out of the box and not slow the speeds down when checking. I use speedtest.net for a quick check.

Log into the router and try turning off SPI on the Advanced->Firewall page and see what you come up with.
