Hey all,

I browsed the forum to see if my problem was listed but I could not find one.  I have an A1 with 1.21 and its been running fine for months.  Now all of a sudden, the router will not recognize an internet connection and my PC will not recognize the router.  There are sudden flashes where the router works and a connection is established, but for the most part, no luck.  Has anyone experienced this problem and was able to make the unit operational again?  I have done all my checking with COmcast and everything is fine on their end and I do have internet with a direct modem connect but all my wireless devices are down at this point.  Since I cannot connect to the router...I cannot do any firmware changes or tweeks to the settings.

Thanks!

Can you do a factory reset and connect 1 pc via wired to the router? V1.21NA is known to be not a good stable version, and had router hang and loss of INTERNET connectivity. I would try the factory reset button on the back and do a reset 1st. Then check for connectivity. I would also ensure that your Internet is good by connecting 1 pc wired to the ISP modem to verify that you are getting Internet and the network is working for the 1 PC.

If you can get the router to come up correctly I would recommend updating to V1.22NA. Let us know how it goes.

I will work on it when I get home today!  I currently have the pc hooked up to the ISP modem so my connection is good!  I have tried the reset button a couple of times just to make sure I cleared it out.

If I can get the router up and I am able to access it via http, I will attempt to move to 1.22NA since you have had some luck with that version.  Thanks for the help...I will post results tonight!

I thought I recall some people having issues using other browsers when trying to connect to the settings.  IE should certianly work, I think Firefox works but I'm not sure myself, I use Google Chrome and that always works.

I had an similar issue with a DGL-4300 that had a failing power supply.

I've also had some issues lately with my Ambit cablemodem, where it stops communicating, and occasionally seems to impact the DGL-4500 as well. Not always though.

YMMV,

Ok guys.....here is the issue after further checking:

DGL 4500
Hardware Ver.  A1
Firmware 1.15

I have online status on the router...but no connection from wired or wireless machines.

Here is the code form the router:

Dropped packet from 169.245.xxx.xxx to 169.245.xxx.xxx IP Protocol17 as unable to create new session.

I have done a complete router reset.  After startup,  I waas able to connect for about 10 minutes and then all my pc's dropped.  Upon further checking on the router, the internet was being sent..no problem, but the wired and wireless were at 0.  ::)

How is your router set up to connect to the cable modem? I've seen this protocol 17 before with my buddies 4500 on DSL. Turned out it was ISP issue. Is the 4500 set up for DHCP or PPPoE connection to the cable modem? If your on DHCP, I would also recommend adding the Primary and 2ndary DNS addresses from the Status/Device Info/WAN section to the Basic/Internet/Manual settings section as well. I would run thru some of the gamine and gamefuel sticky settings posted here in the forums. It gives good settings for this router. You don't need to apply any of the gaming or gamefuel settings however there are other settings I would review.
If your at v1.15, this is a great and stable build. If you want to, send me your configuration file and I can review it and see if there is any thing that I can spot. PM me if you want to do this. Let me us know.

Review my ATT DSL post here too about the ISP issue when you get time.

Thanks for the help.  I will see what I can do...but I cannot even get into the router setting with my pc.  It's like the router is not letting ANY pc's connect to it!  None of the 4 ports allow me into the router...its just strange!

are you using DHCP on the PC network? What browser are you using to connect? IE, FF? If you did a full reset on the router you shouldn't be having any issues connecting to it's web page.

Yep...DHCP on the network.  I did a full reset and I can connect for a few seconds shen nothing.  I really think something is wrong with the wired and wireless ports.  I am going to connect my old Linksys to see if I have a connection.

I use IE for net use.

OK, any firewall or spy programs running on ur PC? Have you tried a different LAN port on the back of the 4500? I presume the connections on the NIC is auto speed? How long have you had this unit for? Can you give FF or Opera a try? I use all 3 here in testing and they all work well. Even on my Mac.

I noticed that you originally posted a FW version of v1.21. Where did you see the v1.15? Was this on the sticky under the 4500? What does the display say on the top menu of the 4500?

Another thing to try is to take this router to a different PC, in house or friends and see if you can access the web page. Trying to help narrow down if this is actual router HW or other HW issue. Sure is odd that if the reset was done that something is wrong. Could be. If after all this we can't help you get it going, might have to contact DLink.  :-\

Hey FurryNuts...

I thought is was at 1.21....but I think that was my DIR655 router that worked like crap...and dlink was about as helpful as on 3 legged Ox.
1.5 came up on the screen as I was going through the settings on the router interface itself.
Now...I have switched to another port and I have been up for about 2 hours.  Funny thing is....why, if the #1 port was down, was I unable to get a connection from my wireless pc's, PS3 and Sonos music player and my XP machine (hard wired on port #3) then all of a sudden....everything works after moving my main machine hardwired form port #1 to #2?  What really makes this more confusing is that my networki drive that was in port #2 is now on port #1 and working fine!......Tottaly odd man!  I must have received a solar flare!!!!  I will keep you updated.....thanks for your williness to help....it has been much appreciated!

Good to hear you got it working. Keep with V1.15. It's a good stable FW. It could be just the one port is bad. Check the pin wires in there, wonder if one could be touching by chance? If not then go with one of the others I guess. Let us know who things goes. Have a good weekend. Furry.

I haven't updated my routers firmware at all and so far so good, no errors, disconnects or range problems. I'm either lucky or luck is on my side this time. Is there a way to find out which firmware I have?, or does all new routers come standard with the lowest firmware when bought brand new?.

you can find the current version loaded from the routers top display panel or from the routers web page.
