How to download via FTP

   I am new to setting up FTP.   I got my DNS all setup and working properly for FTP, execpt for uploading and downloading.  When I try to save a file, it tells me I don't have permission.  The user I am logging on as does belongs to a GROUP that has R/W access.   Is there something I am missing in my setup?
